Looks absolutely lovely.

Looks to be getting even better, bigger budget?
What channel will it run on?
-
Indeed, a series to look forward to. Just love the atmosphere and, yes, all the talky bits.
Also got to show that I'm not fixated on 'historical accuracy' if there's a decent and somewhat original take on it. Well, they even included period discourses of liberty and constitution. :-* ::)

I love it. Looking forward to it :)

And it's started! Yarrrrrr!
It's interesting... Unlike regular TV, where you get weeks of build-up announcing and previewing new series, one of the things with the streaming services (well, Amazon Prime anyway, I don't take Netflix) is that because there is no downtime between programmes, there are no promos. So wonderful new things suddenly appear, largely unheralded.
Last week, I was surprised and delighted to find a new season of Ripper Street underway, and this week, season 3 of the brilliant Black Sails.
Episode one was as good as ever. Great to have it back.
I know some people find it a bit slow, but for me, it's a perfect evocation of the pirate genre. The action, when it comes, tends to be brief, bloody and utterly brutal. The rest of the time it's politics, personality, sex, and machinations of power and commerce - all linked together. I love it. Above all, the visuals and production design is just stunning. Episode 1's shots of ships were utterly believable and wonderful. I don't know whether it's CGI, or models, or real ships - but they look blinking marvellous. If you're into pirates as a fictional / wargaming genre, I can't see how you can fail to be captivated by Black Sails.

I watched the first episode of season 3 yesterday. And I must say I cannot wait for the next episode.
Without spoilering it to much. (BUT BE WARNED)
It is interesting how Flint and Vane seem to be swapping roles as to who is the unhinged psycho and who is the dependable champion af the greater good.

Love it, but will have to wait for the DVD as I don't have Amazon Prime. Grrr!
-
Brilliant! Super-happy this has started again. Can't believe it's been a year already.

Me too.. :(

Not crossed my radar before but that trailer does look good. I might have to catch up on 1 & 2 at some point.

Oh come on Nicholas. A man of your means... ;)
It's 70-odd quid a year - for loads of brilliant series like Black Sails, plus all your books and other stuff bought off Amazon, suddenly goes to free postage and guaranteed next-day delivery.
I've saved seventy quid on postage alone in the two years I've had it. All that excellent televisual content is just a wonderful added bonus :)
(Sorry, I know we're all meant to hate Amazon for their various dubious practices, and I'm no cheerleader for Amazon as a corporation, but I have to say Prime is an excellent deal, and the cornucopia of TV - and to a lesser extent movie - content is simply bloody marvellous compared to the feeble production values of much of the dross on regular telly).
All for the price of a decent meal out. Or a large resin building.

Just watched episode 1 of season three and loved it :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Black beard has arrived, great :D :D :D
-
I need to finish Outlander than I'm onto Black Sails S2 and S3 in a straight-ish run :D
-
I absolutely love Black Sails. Shame it's not available on Prime in Germany. The last two seasons were great. As Captain Blood describes, the slow tempo does give it a lot of plausibility. I find all these non-action bits to be quite inspirational for gaming too.

I am undecided about 'Outlander'.
I could watch the lead actress all day. (And all night). Not only beautiful, but very, very good. And considering she's Irish, a flawless English accent.
But a few parts felt a bit too near to 'Blackadder does the Jacobite Rebellion' - comic clansmen and some massive clichés...
But...
SPOILER ALERT....
... I found the time travel bits almost irrelevant and slightly irritating. Can't help thinking a full-blooded take on the '45 without the peripheral time-travel weirdness would have been just as good, if not better. Still, the books the series is based on are what they are. I'm told the whole time travel thing is more integral further on in the saga...
I also felt the whole rapey-dungeon storyline stretched over the final two episodes was dealt with in just a bit too much loving and graphic detail. Really not nice.

I'm a huge fan of this Series. Loving the new season. I think the pace is perfect. Just enough action and just enough dialogue to make interesting imho. The previews show what look to be some pretty cool land battles coming up as well.
-
Sadly for us in Oz Amazon prime is about as useful as a chocolate teapot :(
-
Just finished Season 3. The Battle scene at the end was bloody awesome.
-
Just watched season 3 episode 10 WOW :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Full of inspiration a great battle on land and sea
-
Such a great finale! I felt like an hour wasn't long enough, I wanted more :)
-
Fantastic finale! I too wanted more. Great inspiration to give my long dormant pirate project a bit of a nudge. Think I'll work on it again soon.

I just finished watching. Brilliant!
Now the long wait until next season.
-
Yes. Brilliant. Loved it all the way through from the start, and this finale to season 3 did not disappoint. Roll on season 4!
-
Wonderful stuff, the end battle was especially inspiring!

Black Sails has truly proven to be the pirate show I've been waiting for. :D
