Title: Supacat Jackal
Post by: Dags on 04 December 2015, 03:24:31 PM
Truly horrible 1/48th Airfix kit that's only bonuses are that it isn't the worst in the range to put together and it is not as bad as the fugly crew figures. Thankfully I had a few spare Empress heads to make them look human....

I picked up the Coyote on a black friday deal for the kit box.  Soooo many pieces and options for some post-apoc/sci-fi work but I agree that the moulds are showing their age with flash and mould lines.

Fantastic job on the kit there!  :-* :D

Thanks, guys  8)

Well....

If you can pick them up cheap - I paid £5 each for 2 - they are 'all right'.

It is a bit of pig to clean up and assemble but, as I said, no where near as bad as the Snatch Landy which is awful.

Size-wise they are a bit big (but I feel the 'correct' 1/56th ones are too small) - the crew figures are about a head taller than the Empress Brits.

They are too fragile for gaming unless you base them.

With the second one I'm going to replace a lot of the more fragile bits with brass wire (especially the axles) and white metal weapons.

The crew figures (extra - unsurprisingly) are basically plastic blobs and only 3 of 8 in the set are of any use. They take a lot of carving and mucking about in order to get them to fit. Thankfully the Empress heads fit perfectly  ;)

Excellent job.

Just building some myself and ..........creating some crews to fit. If they work we will release them. Keep your fingers crossed.  ;)

I found my Airfix model to be pretty decent, aside from the gunner in the 50. cal machine gun cupola not quite fitting. Oh and the drivers feet not reaching the pedals... Apart from that I quite like it.

Nice to see you salvaged that...the Supacat line is one of my favourite combat vehicles.  Absolutely awesome looking.  Are they still in service or did they ditch them all for fully enclosed MRAPs?

Still very much in service. Intended to be used for convoy protection/escort and recon (I think). I know special forces use them now rather than land rovers.
