Has anyone got a suggestion for a source of a winter themed gaming mat for Frostgrave? My preference would be for a 4x4 mat and a maker in the US (or at least a maker with reasonable shipping to the US, I was looking at Terrain Mat in the UK and they wanted £120 to ship a 4x4 mat!). :o
Please no suggestions on making my own mat (and I've alread got a sheet of plain white felt). I'm quite literally years behind on painting miniatures, I simply don't have time to make my own terrain, too. :'(
Thanks! :)

I use 2 hobby store brick place mats I got at Michaels art supply for about 20$ CDN. They are not perfect but they are exactly the right size together (each is 3' by 1.5').

Check out the F.A.T Mats from Frontline Gaming. This link is to their 4'x4' Alpine mat:

75.00, includes the carrying tube

Look into Deep Cut Studios. Excellent, quick service and very reasonable shipping from Lithuania(?).
Unfortunately at the moment, they only have some nice cobblestone street layouts or a couple of different snow/ice/tundra lay-outs (no snow cities)

I'd suggest the mouse-pad material (neoprene) as it's a fantastic material for gaming mats. Their mats start at £32+shipping (an conversion rates right now are favorable on the pound, around $1.50).

I have several F.A.T. Mats, and I love them. One of my favorite features of the F.A.T Mat is its surface texture. I find them very pleasing to roll dice on. They make a firm, quiet surface for the dice that's still soft and smooth. They seem like a giant mouse pad, to me.

Thanks, everyone! I'll have to check out all your suggestions. 8)

This is what I use. Can't recommend them enough. A little big but you can always scale down the playing area or use the extra space wisely.

I'm planning on grabbing the cobblestone map. I figured by making my terrain suitably wintery, it would fit the bill nicely. I'm going to be using the Fenris Games cobblestone bases for my miniatures, with a scattering of snow :)

The road-layout or the full cobblestone? They do custom stuff, and I think someone here even had one done by them. Maybe email them and ask how much it would cost to throw a snow graphical layer on it? Maybe worth a shot.

A recent kickstarter produced various 3' x 3' mats, I received mine today - Mat 22, which seems very suitable for Frostgrave.

Too late for the kickstarter now but he is going to stock the most popular mats in the future

Maybe Hotz Mats[url]? They accept custom orders. (http://www.hotzmats.com/felt_purchase_mat.html)

If you missed the kickstarter (like I did), you can message him on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ceridesign/) and make an order. I did so and am now awaiting my 'design 22'.

Mine arrived today (#42) and I like it a lot. Lovely feel to it and the textures add a lot of visual interest. This particular one wouldn't work for a 'normal' town but the decayed look to it really works for a ruined city. Once I make more progress with terrain I'll post some pics.

Mine's just arrived - and very nice it is too!

I encountered those, and wanted a 3x3 snow mat (without 2-D rocks, etc.), but they don't make a mousepad version. :(
-
They remove the mouse-pad option when it's out of stock. Email them to verify, but it's weird how they do the site. They removed that from two mats I'd ordered previously so I emailed them and they just said it's a stock thing.
Worth a shot. The neoprene ones are the most expensive, but not by much and I think the quality vastly outweighs the small increase in price. May be worth hitting up Kraken Wargames as well, since they recently launched a similar KS and may be open to new mat ideas.

This is the new mat coming soon from the guy who did the Kickstarter some of us backed. Should be about £19 including UK p&p:

-
That's...okay looking. The cobbles (if that's a 4'x4') though are going to be as big as a miniature's base. Looks a bit out of scale.
-
Should have said it's 3' by 3'.
I have one (a different design) and it looks so much better printed on the material than on a computer screen.
-
I have to say that this doesn't look professional at all. The tiling of the textures is very apparent, and the snow was just applied with a spray tool or spray brush and the layer given some transparency. This is, however, not how snow falls in real life; it would cover lower surfaces and leave higher surfaces (raised flagstones or cobblestones) uncovered, without becoming transparent for some reason.

Well there you go Cherno, seeing as how you know how it should look, you can design one thats realistic , as far as you're concerned,
make and sell it for £19 ., and every person that plays Frostgrave will be throwing money at you to buy one.
Its a Gaming mat, for F*^% sake.
Its going to be covered in terrain for one thing.
And for another, If there was a city that had been berried in ice for a thousand years , Im sort of doubting
that there would be much left standing, let alone having creatures running around in it...
Just in case you forgot ...Its a GAME, and you can use your imagination and pretend :)

1. If you take critique (which I honestly think is well-founded) personal, that's your choice. I would think that a better way to deal with it is to view it as (negative) feedback. If you don't agree with my opinion, please say so and we can discuss.
2. I have no desire to create or sell a gaming mat, so why should I? I guess I'd also have to be a professional soccer player if I wanted to voice my opinion on a soccer match ???
3. As for the rest: I don't know how this is relevant :)

I found these grey stone embrossed cloth sections at Micheals for about a buck and a half. They're only 9"x 11" but they'll work, and they're cheap. Add snow flocking, and I'd say the job's a good-un.

Got a part number or sku?

Deep-cut Studio have released a new Frostgrave mat available in 3' by 3' and larger sizes and in 3 different materials:

That DeepCut mat is excellent, thanks for the link!

I think I found my mat! Which size should I get?
-
I made a Frostgrave mat that I think looks wonderful and did it for about $6 in heavy canvas fabric (with coupon) and about $2 of acrylic paint. It took me all of an hour or two to make it (less time than it takes to paint one miniature). It rolls up nicely and lays flat.

I want to buy the Deep Cut Frostgrave mat, but I am in doubt as to what size I should get.
For those who played a bunch already, is 4 by 4 enough, or should I really go 4 by 6? I personally think 4 by 4 is fine, but admittedly haven't played a lot of games yet.
-
The Deep Cut mat is promising, but I agree that the one above that is pretty poor. Jennifer's is the best of all, I think, so maybe I need to make my own!
-
Most regular games should be on 3x3, but if you do 3+ players allot then I'd go with the 4x4 or 4x6
-
3 x 3 even huh? Hmmm...
Well... I am not sure if we are ever going to do any large battles, and even if we did, nothing wrong with starting up close and personal. More brutal combat, if you ask me.
3 x 3 is 90cm x 90cm I am guessing? That WOULD fit my table better... Hmmm...
-
Some people even use 2x2.
-
Another company has produced a Frostgrave map in various sizes and materials:

I think it comes down to how much room you have? You can always just play on a portion of a larger mat, but if all you have is a small mat you are always limited to that size.

Does anyone know of a supplier for the US that has decently priced mats?
-
I ordered one of these and I am very happy with it , highly recommend. I live in Spain so they do delivery out side the UK. Delivery UK to Spain cost me 7 Pounds.

Those are nice looking mats, with reasonable prices for both the product and international shipping (around $10). I was looking at mats from another maker, who wanted £120 to ship two cloth mats to the US!

If you have the design you can go to inked gaming (http://www.inkedgaming.com/). They also offer an already printed snow mat
http://www.inkedgaming.com/collections/art/products/arctic-battle-lines-wargaming-mat
Also there is http://cigarboxbattlestore.bigcartel.com/product/frozen-ruins-3x3-201 . Though it is durable fleece not a mousepad style.
I'll also point out that I have not personally ordered from either place but I have heard good reviews on Inked gaming from local gamers.
