Title: New vehicle, The Chimera: Finished!
Post by: Ramshackle_Curtis on 04 December 2008, 01:12:44 PM
Here is an image of parts from my new vehcile. It should be out next week, and is called the Chimera. I chose the name because i wanted to put a lions head and a rams head on the same vehicle. The front bits are the turret set, with choice of weapons and some lights, plus a version of Horatio Leopold poking otu of the top!

Looks fantastic. Careful on the name though. Dosn't GW have a Chimera? Save yourself on some possible future problems from their legal department.

Er, Chimera is a beast with 3 heads (goat, lion and serpent) spawned by  Typhon and Echidna. Im not sure GW own that name yet
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(mythology)

. Also, the name comes from me wanting to make a model vehicle with a ram and lion heads on, so what else could I call it?

Anyway, maybe I should sue them for using Ramshackle to describe thier orc vehicles?!
Er, that was just a joke by the way!

For some reason the image isn't showing up on my computer and I had to click on the red X to open the picture in a new window.

Wow, that's pretty impressive.  Looks very GW Empiresque, but I agree it's also very VSF.  I especially like the commander.  You should make that typical fluted smokestack, perhaps in other sizes as well, and offer it as part of your bits program.

Very nice work Curtis. Since I'm using the Horatio Leopold figure as the general for my Prussians, please put me down for one - this will be one impressive staff car!

Keep up the good work.

Well, it DOES look... evil! Yes, an EVIL Showman´s Engine! lol

Very nice piece. I could also picture it as a Dwarven War Engine for some fantasy games. Those sculpted surface details are great, although it doesn´t really scream Victoriana to me, but maybe "evil early industrial revolution as put on stage by Italian opera"?

Great work Curtis. This will make a great command car for my Prussian army (alongside your spider tank).

That is kinda nice. It may make an appearance on Mars at this rate.

Are the driver and commander figures seperate, Curtis? i.e. could they be swapped out for other minis?

Not that there's anything wrong with them, I just had an idea of it as an ancient, rather baroque piece of alien technology. With fish-headed drivers.

Indeed the figures are seperate, the commander as shown above and the driver as here

So yes, the vehcile is officially available from now! Woot!

Excellent really!
It really captures the essence of VSF. Big , clunky, over engineered
Good to see all the gears and cogs showing.

The only thing I dont like are the drill bits at the front otherwise it is going to go on a shopping list for the new year.

Bring on more of the same.

Oh by the way is it 28mm scale?

Cheers
Neil

28mm ish, Id say. The driver is 28mm, so yes, but he is quite short. I mean yes, but id say "for use with "heroic" 28-30mm gaming."

As for the drills, Dewbakuk has expressed his displeasure at the use of drills as a weapon. However, I stand firm in my desision. Great big whirly drills! I tried working out ideas for other powered weaponry, but really the drill seemed to work the best.

At that price I am more than tempted. There seems to be great conversion potential in this kit... o_o

Great work Curtis. This will make a great command car for my Prussian army (alongside your spider tank).

Change of plan. Looking closer at this vehicle, it will work better with the small British home service force I am working on (since I already have impervious suits with brass lion faces on the armour). Admiral Leopold will be used separately in a command car for my Prussians (vehicle design still to be decided).

The only thing I will definately change is the drill bits - might be replaced with a pair of flamethrowers or headlights.

Dave

BTW : Curtis - you really do need to update the front page of your website, as it is still announcing the spider tank as a 'new release'.

I would make an additional suggestion, Curtis: include a page "what's new?".  People like myself (returning customers) are used to look at the different sections to find out the new stuff, but occasional visitors (and wouldbe customers) are likely to miss the new stuff if it is not mentioned seperately.

Yes, its totally going to happen very soon. I was actually just working out a plan for the web site. I need to update the gallery too, especiall now that I have some good images of the oneyard truck with orks, thanks to Rudi!

But yes, update the front page, re-do the "coming soon" section as "whats new"(thanks for idea!), edit out some spelling miztaykes and add a section with instuctions. I have all the images ready fro instructions for the boneyard truck ready to be edited.

Oh and on top of that I have to cast out the orders coming in and make new ,odels to expand the range, layout the new version of the Nuclear Renaissance rulebook, make a load of christams presents and what else? Oh yeah drink beer and laze around!

Well, Curtis, remember you were moaning about a more succesful business a while ago...

You are evolving in the right direction, but you're not there yet: as soon as the "beer drinking" is replaced by "counting money" (all the time), you will be there...  lol

My Chimera arrived with today's post. My first thoughts are that the overall quality has very much improved since I received one of the first spider tanks - no bubble holes and much better quality resin.

Well, it DOES look... evil! Yes, an EVIL Showman´s Engine! lol

Seeing the pieces up close, I think Chris' description is spot-on. This model is going to be a lot of fun to make and paint (including the mandatory Bullshott customisation). With its open construction I think I will probably turn this vehicle into a self-propelled artillery piece (probably with some sort of electrical weapon).

Yes, I found out the best resin formula from Jez at Old Crow when I was at UK Games Expo last year. Marble powder and grey pigment is the secret! Makes it look better and the pieces are alot sronger.

Anyway, Im looking forward to seeing some painted conversions! More meat for the gallery!
