Title: Fun Christmas Painting Competition anyone?
Post by: Ray Rivers on 07 December 2008, 12:43:43 PM
Well...

Dunno, how this will go over with everybody...

But, anyway, I was thinking... how about an informal, fun Christmas painting competition?

***********************

Rules (subject to modification):

1) Subject: Minimum of any single miniature.   o_o  The miniature need not be Christmas themed.
2) Photo: Single image (allowing multiple photo angles)
3) Basic painting requirement: A significant proportion of the subject should be painted in either or red, white and/or green, in whatever proportion the artist chooses... or whatever the artist deems appropriate  ::)
4) Number of entries:  Unlimited
5) Extra Points:
**** +5 votes if the miniature is wearing a Santa hat.
6) Duration of vote: 8 days.

Entry Submission: PM me (subject Christmas Competition Entry) with either an image or url link and a description of the miniature (manufacturer and name) of your entry no later then 2359, 24 Dec. 2008.

***********************

Red and white probably are the two colors I have the greatest problem with, so, a chance to practise here.

Anyway, if there is enough interest (think 10 as a minimum), I'll be happy to compile the photos onto a single "poll" thread on Christmas and we can have a bit of good cheer with voting and bantering.

So... anybody up for the challenge?

Comments... recommendations?

im up for it. but i think 90% is a bit much. it should be.
> all miniatures entered should have a GOOD proportion of red white and or green on them.
minis with Santa hats get 1 extra point to boost there score .  :D

Agreed...

I dropped it to 80%... but as it is informal, I think we can be pretty liberal here... it's more the intent than anything else.  And the intent is fun, nobody will be disqualified for not having enough red and white coverage.

Okay... editing here... I changed the requirement to a "significant" proportion, but it is really whatever folks want... the competition is meant to be fun... so really...

Will update rules as folks chime in.

 lol

I like it.   :D

I must say I am completely opposite in my view of Christmas mini's - I hate and loathe them with a vengeance

On that basis - I'm in o_o

8. WOOP is there a chance we could do some sort of prize. an incentive to say the least. ?
I'm sure we could do something. possibly a free mini or a coupon or code. (reckon we could heckle one of our sponsors into a discount code  ;))

think it would be nice if we could.

Oh excellent!

Yes and indeed, remember, it doesn't have to be Christmas themed... though I do have a rather twisted idea along those lines...

 :o

As for a prize... hmm... I'll have to ponder on that one for a while...

Good shop Chaps... we're getting there.

Important note: Basic painting requirement modified once again to include green.

I'd be happy to rummage and look for a prize. maybe we could all donate one of those figures thats been lurking at the bottom of our lead mountain. personally i have a few old citadel pieces that might deem worthy. i think painters figures (the kind that have nice details worthy of a good paint job) would be nice.

Super!

Welcome number 10. May the games begin...

Hopefully some more brave adventurers will also take part.

On another note... I'm sure I could part with a mini or two as a prize as well.  The question here is... does it get too serious if we add prizes?

Well it would be rude not to include the newly painted Space Santa.

A classic GW from many years ago and I mean a classic. I wish I had more of these guys, as he was wonderful to paint. A true joy no less. Amazingly I am being serious,if you can find one, get it, they really are fun to paint!  :D

But onto the compo idea, something along these lines gents? How about.....

There will be better mini's, there will be better paint jobs, but there are very few Space Santas left! lol

Hmmmmm, mind you, if Orctrader is playing, I may have to throw my presents out of the sleigh and take my Santa home with me!!  lol

Good luck LAFers.

A prize or no, we all want to win Christmas!  :D

An excellent entry.

If you would like I will enter it into the competition.

However, in general, I think the better option is to hold off publishing your photos, PM them to me and I will post them with a poll on Christmas morning... and we all will get a big surprise... hopefully... pleasant!   o_o

What are the rules - if any - on photo size?  Number of views, etc?

Title: Re: Fun Christmas Painting Competition anyone?

Buggeration.
Lovely idea Ray. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to have the time in the next three weeks - have an awful lot on both work and leisure wise, and virtually no free time at all.
If I can I will, but I probably won't be able to  :'(
But I shall be rooting for you all!

Just a single .jpg.   Put as many different views on it as you want and any size.

It is, after all, a Gentleman's Contest.

and if black cat will donate a prize then, AWESOME
 :D :D :D

i have done a Christmas mini for two years running any way. so this should be fun and fit in with my ummm. schedule.

Ah, good good. Assuming I don't finish before the 20th would be a good time. Will be a nice change to the local monthly contests I win all the time (too much young blood), but there's never one in December cause the shop closes for the holidays, and I'm positive most here will give me a run for my money ;).

Cheers all, and happy Christmas!

If you get less than 15 different individuals then we will give you a one off of a Christmas set plus £20 voucher from our store for first only (unless there is an entry we are particularly fond of when we may choose in either instance to aware an instant prize! (Cats are nice!:)) sound fair???

One thing: It says, "minimum" of one figure. Does that mean that it can be a vignette or group, or even a whole army, or what? Is there an upper size limit?

Edit: I see my question has been answered on another thread. Didn't realise there were two. A little confusing, that.

Up to you really... there will be no disqualifications for content.

Of the 3 I have received 2 are Christmas related and 1 is not.  Mine, which I am still laboring over, is quasi-Christmas related with a little twist.

Ray, sorry if that picture blows monkeys - we are pouring snow here at the moment, and I can't get any better light on it than that. I even lightened it with an editor.
