Title: Tobsen's Monowheel...
Post by: anevilgiraffe on 09 December 2008, 08:53:25 PM
a while back on Frothers, Tobsen asked for anyone willing to paint his monowheel... http://frothersunite.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=321859&highlight=monowheel#321859

and, quite carried away with the moment, apparently I got in there first... now this was slightly ruined by the local sorting office going on a go slow in protest at some job cuts and it took about 5 weeks for it to arrive from Germany to the UK... so it's not quite off the cuff as it could have been.... it's also the first thing I've painted for a couple of months so was quite nice to get back into the swing...

(http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roweller/tob/IMG_0809a.jpg) (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roweller/tob/IMG_0810a.jpg)  (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roweller/tob/IMG_0811a.jpg)

looking at the design of it, combined with Tobsens choice of driver, it had to be best suited to desert and scrub land so I went with sand as the main base colour... also played with the GW washes which gave a nice effect... the driver I liked the idea of a blue shirt with white grandad collar - I seem to remember seeing a pale blue undershirt with khaki in a picture somewhere and thought it would look ok... if nothing else, he can be an offshoot of the Camel Corps  :D

now it was a bit of a bugger to paint, Tobsen had pre-glued the engine block (presumably as he knows where the bits go) which made some areas tricky to get to... similary I think the driver and the gun are two seperate castings which were glued on his original so the tween the legs area will not stand up to much scrutiny...

this will be winging it's way back to him shortly - it was a fun model to paint... the wheel has such a great shape... there were a few casting blips and small air bubbles, but it's fun - I reckon an Ork or a Grot could fit in there easily and look perfectly in place (in fact that was my first thought until I'd realised Tobsen had sent me the driver as well so late VSF it was)...
