Hi all,
My daughter's interest in the hobby is beginning to increase. This has been helped by encouraging her to join the tabletop gaming club at her school which has allowed her to spend gaming time with her peers. So far she has played D&D, Warhammer 40k and Dust Tactics. She's decided she wants to play something zombie related but there's nothing on offer at the club.
This is where dad steps in. Can anyone suggest a good, fun, fast moving zombie game? I'm after something that can be set up quite quickly with fairly simple rules. If it comes with a horde of plastic zombies, even better! It needs to be a game that requires figures to represent the zombies and survivors rather than counters or cards (her request).
Also, is there a source of cheap plastic zombies on the market?
Thanks very much :)

I'd go with the obvious: Zombicide. Simple rules, cooperative gameplay and it comes with some great minis for survivors and zombies.

+1 for zombicide. It is simple enough to play and requires co-operation between the players. Players vs environment is probably also nice with kids.
It comes with a bunch of zombies and good survivor miniatures, which can step in as miniatures in other games as well. I just had a post-apoc game (TNT) where the zombies stepped in as rad zombies in the wasteland.

Akula's Rules: Skirmish Edition aka Total AR:SE, not on his blog but you can find a copy here: https://web.archive.org/web/20140530051703/http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roweller/ARSE/akulasrules.pdf (https://web.archive.org/web/20140530051703/http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roweller/ARSE/akulasrules.pdf)

Simple, fast, fun and FREE - I've played these with children and they'll soon be explaining to you how it works. ;)
Cheapest plastic zombies I know of are the studio ones:
Thirty quid for 60 via Studio: http://www.studiominiatures.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&task=category&id=2&Itemid=382 (http://www.studiominiatures.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&task=category&id=2&Itemid=382)
Or thirty quid minus a penny plus free postage via ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Studio-Miniatures-Z-Clipz-Male-Modern-Zombies-60-plastic-28mm-scale-/252182230261 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Studio-Miniatures-Z-Clipz-Male-Modern-Zombies-60-plastic-28mm-scale-/252182230261)

The board game zombies and the add ons are ideal for kids, my daughters loved it, I even painted a couple of little lasses from hasslefree to be them

Another +1 for Zombicide. Everything is there as a starter set and there are further expansions if her interest is piqued. :D
-
Another endorsement for Zombicie.
It can be a bit expensive and if you're a complete-ist it may be frustrating as a number of the miniatures were 'Kickstarter only' but it should meet your needs as described above.
The game is also pretty well supported online and there are plenty of different scenarios on the Guillotine Games website.

Something perhaps worth looking at is the current incarnation of Zombie Plague, which has rules and possibly scenarios in a comic format.

I haven't seen the latest incarnation but it was the original free to print and play version (I don't think this is available now) that introduced me to zombie games.

Another vote for Zombicide, it really is fun and easy, with the added bonus that I reckon Dad will like it and want to play it with HIS mates too.
;)

+1 for Zombicide

For cheap plastic zombies, check if Flying Frog Game still sell the Zombie and Survivor packs from their Last Night on Earth boardgames. They are of the bendy plastic variety and are a pain to paint, but they are relatively cheap, come in multiple poses, are fairly detailed, and handle the rigors of gaming easily ;)
-
Most definately Zombicide.
-
I can only vote for Zombicide, IMO one of the best co-operative games.
Even the starter game has plenty of Missions and a great re playability.
Bear in mind that you can buy any of the 3 Starter game:
Zombicide
Prison Outbreak (Season 2)
Rue Morgue (Season 3)
They are all around 60-70 € each and you get 6 Player minis plus a LOT of Zs.
If someone is in addition even remotely in Zs interested - THIS is your game.
-
Zombicide.
Simple, fun and cooperative.
Many expansions and accessories like extra Zs and tiles are available to have your zombie world and your cast of survivors grow plus it's easy to create your own original scenarios, so the fun will never stop.

The Zombies board game would be my choice, cheap and simple with several expansions.

are you referring to Zombies!!! ?
If so, I had fun with that, but almost always found that gameplay is too long.
Whenever one is nearing the chopper pad or last needed kills, someone would play a card to have him back at the town square or lose half his/her kills.
I had everything up to Zombies!!! 6, but just gave it away to a friend because after Zombicide I didn't want to play it anymore.
If I'd have to suggest something other than Zombicide, I'd say Last Night on Earth.
Also heard a lot of good things about Crossroads : Dead of Winter, but that is with standees, not figures.
And for all you Zombie nuts out there : Rise of the Zombies. A cardgame you play against the clock. Yes : real time. It's a blast !

Zombicide. Hordes of zombies, check. Cool plastic minis, check. Watching Not-Jason Statham and Not-Gordon Ramsay get eaten alive by the undead, priceless. I think you can put together a team of survivors solely of Not-Expendables, and can definitely do a Big Bang Theory survivor team.

Thank you all very much for the advice, much appreciated.
We've gone for Zombiecide and Zombies so it looks like there's much fun ahead :)
-
I love Zombicide (have Everything) BUT Crossroads: Dead of Winter (only played 2x) has better game mechanics IMHO.
-
Echo Zombiecide, but still some love for Last Night on Earth. Much to be said for the trashy American stereotypes. I suppose that kind of begs the question of 'how old is the lass?' ;)
I remember you mentioning her years ago, but never got an idea of how old she was then.
