Title: The Secret Laboratory of Dr Munro Pt. 2--a Pulp Alley AAR -- scenery pics
Post by: oabee on 09 February 2016, 04:51:51 AM
Having done the Secret Laboratory of Dr Munro--a Pulp Alley Scenario for four players--at the World at War Day at Fort Meigs, I took it on the road to WinterCon 2016 in suburban Detroit and expanded to six players and enlarged the board from 3' x 3' to 4' x 4'. An AAR follows.

If you want the big picture, check out the PDF here:

Excellent - the comic book style suits pulp AAR so well. Enjoyed the story.

Figures and terrain  :-* :-* :-*

What are you using for your base mat, it really works well, is it a base mat of cobbles with other pavement mats laid over. Whatever it is very effective.

Thanks for your kind comments.

The gaming mat is from F.A.T. Mats by Frontline Gaming, their Urban Combat #2, 4' x 4'. A little pricey...but here in the States we can get them at Noble Knight at a discount, and their service is great! This is a mouse-pad type of mat and is a dream to work with...just roll it out and set up your terrain. A cloth surface, so no reflections or shine. Mats with this type of surface are not as brilliant as the vinyl/polyester mats, so it is more subdued, but I was very pleased with it, especially transporting it to the convention. Very easy to travel with.

Thanks for info on the mat, as you say a bit expensive but definitely worth it if you have the cash.

From what I've seen the mouse mat material is nicer than the PVC but at a cost, yours looks very good.

The photos inside the Laboratory do not show off the terrain inside very nicely. Of interest may be Ttcombat's Cyber Power Plants. By leaving one of the sections unglued, one can insert an LED battery light inside to give it that sci-fi glow. Normal lights are too wide to fit, but I found some at Hometown Evolutions that are smaller and do the trick quite nicely. Plus they come in various colors! Find them at this page:

https://www.hometownevolutioninc.com/paper-lanterns.html

Here they are inserted in the Power Plants:

Here's how the lights fit in:

I thought it would be appropriate to put the evil Dr. Munro some sort of platform from which to wield his power. Bandu Wargame's Industrial Square Tower fit the bill nicely:

Only had time to put a base coat of Privateer Press's Pig Iron on these models before the game, but they don't look too bad...  ;)

BTW, the interior of the Power Plants is just painted Pig Iron like the exterior...I suppose if one would paint the interior white or maybe the color of the light, the effect would change.

I love your AARs, thanks for sharing!  I hope to follow your lead on this when I get a chance.  Your minis and terrain are very inspiring.

What software are you using for the comic book format?

Cheers,

Matt

Thanks for the kind comments, Matt. I'm using Comic Life 3. You can get it free for 30 days, $29.99 after that. Recommended!
