Title: Basing Swashbucklers
Post by: SgtPerry on 18 January 2007, 04:32:52 PM
I should begin to paint my Brigade Games figures (ordered with the Gloire ruleset) quite soon.

If I first thought to base them like my old west  figures :

However if the round bases from Renaissance Ink seem perfect, I can't really use dirt and grass for adventures on paved roads or dirty lanes .

Antenociti's Workshop has this paved cardboard that could be very nice.

What do you think?

I think you could use dirt and grass just fine! After all, not all adventures took place on the polished cobblestones of Paris.

Your bases are quite nice. I'd keep using that style.

Furthermore, I think it´s dubious that a great number of Paris´ streets apart from the most representative were actually paved before the 18th century...

I´d go for the grass-and-earth approach. Maybe even add some small flat stones to break up the brown and help it blend in with the grey paving.

I think that a cobblestone ground with dirt patches would be fine. May be I can carve some paved stones in the figures metal base and add sand/dirt around the base.

Thanks,

Olivier

Here is a photo of my first swashbucklers. I'm quite happy with the result.

These are simple bases. I added patches of cobblestone floor (foam card from antenocity's Workshop) and dirt (sand mortar).

I'll take more pictures this weekend with a better light.

Nicely done, and well done on the bases!

Interesting note: When I painted my swashbucklers, I painted the color on the coats and the shirts and pants a dull brown or gray. You've done the opposite--the coats are gray and brown, but the shirt and pants are colorful. I like it very much!
