Title: Work in progress - Melnibonean mini what do you think? update 29.12.08
Post by: dodge on 12 December 2008, 09:32:31 AM
Having a crack at a Melnibonean.

The research says they have yellow or bronze armour generally, so I did one in yellow.

I think I went too far with the yellow, its a bit yellow what other colour could I use as a contrast?

I was thinking of an off white, ivory, on the arms and robes, but not sure whether another colour would work better.

Thanks in advance for any help  :D

I have now got loads of different types of fantasy mini from reaper, and the chronopia range so I'll post these up when I've done some.

Nice so far, I had considered using GW Dark Elves myself at one point, but decided they weren't baroque enough for me, if you see what I mean.

As to the painting, the yellow works really well on the cloth parts of the mini, but I would try and make the actual armour parts stand out a bit more with proper metalic colours. A nice deep bronze would really set it off IMO. There's just not enough contrast between the two at the moment.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with the other manufacturers stuff. I've been mulling a project like this around for years.  :)

Thanks , you are right not enough contrast at all, looks odd, the yellow actually has come up quite well and has stood up to being photographed far better than I thought it would.

So on The next one it will be yellow on arms and robes but bronze/ brass for the helmet , body armour and gauntlets, I'll stick another together tonight and do one next week.

The chronopia elves are just very good , quite dark and sinister I'll do one of those too.

Thanks jollybob,

I have recently applied some finishing touches to the bronze etc.. and based them.

I will post picks later on.

But yellow is hard to paint well, I sort of got there but it was hard.

overall though I'm fairly chuffed with the results.
