Title: Black Ops and Modern CofC
Post by: Rich H on 14 February 2016, 09:29:10 AM
Hey all,

We were playing Ultra Modern Fighting Season from Too Fat Lardies but that appears to be in a hiatus right now so we have moved into Black Ops but are still looking for a rule set for slightly bigger games.  We are going to try and adaptation of Chain Of Command (which we play a lot of WW2)

In the mean time here are some pics of my terrain and minis
I've got Afghan/Insurgents and Modern Romanians (using Modern Russians); mostly Elhiem with some Britannia

Fighting Season in progress:

Looking good , Dude, I wish I was as organised as this. I would have thought that the C o Command rules could be readily adopted for this period, I,ll be interested in further posts.

Great stuff. I really need to finish up those S-Model BMPs I've got lying around.

Cheers chaps!

The Fighting season rules were an adaptation of CofC and they are very interesting but were getting hugely complex.
It did a good job of getting the feel of the asymmetric warfare but to do that they were hard work.

The ISAF guys had so many options they were slow and difficult to play.  The Afghan forces were far simpler!

Will keep this post updated, probably with black ops stuff, we've got some cool ideas that need a try.
We've found super yacht deck plans and my regular opponents has access to an A0 printer so we'll try a black ops mission to infiltrate the ship.

So very AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

I have been collecting some Elhiem Figures but not done anywhere near enough with them.  Please keep posting updates as this is inspiring stuff and exactly what I have been looking for.

Did you scratch build the buildings as well?

Hi,

Yes all scratch built scenery.  Playing modern CofC later today: Russia vs USMC.

We've incorporated APCs into the squads and that seemed to work OK, the USMC are very heavily armed and seriously outnumber the Russians but they struggled to hit the APCs with their AT rockets which meant they tended to dominate if they got into position.

Id didn't help tha tlast time 2x M240 gunners failed to hit a Russian rifle squad at 6" range in the open... and then got shredded in return!

Modern CofC last night: We are playing Russian vs USMC at the moment.

The changes we've made are quite light but it seems to work quite well.
New weapons table and unit lists.

Body armoured units convert the first hit of each volley into shock.
We've included APCs into the sections as an additional 'team'
There is a bit of command by radio stuff.

The USMC have devastating firepower but the Russians have the 14.5mm on the BTR-70s

the challenge is the the USMC to get heir LAWs and SMAWs into play without getting shredded
The Russians need to reduce the USMC before that happens...
