Title: Pulp Alley at Pro Or Con - The Search for Fragarach - Progress report
Post by: oabee on February 14, 2016, 10:55:54 PM
I'm back on the road, this time on March 12 travelling to Livonia, Michigan, which is especially beautiful this time of year. The occasion is Pro Or Con: BattleFields! where I will be hosting a four-player Pulp Alley game based on the famous Hidalgo Fire scenario, although this one is named The Search for Fragarach. I've been reading the Iron Druid series of novels by Kevin Hearne and picked Atticus's sword as a magical /mystical item that rival leagues are seeking.

Today I put the major terrain pieces down on the playing surface to get a general idea of what's needed, and am generally pleased with the setup. The surface is bereft for the moment of foliage and any sort of scatter terrain, but adding that will be no problem:

The playing surface is from PlayMats.eu and is beautiful, if a little overboard with large 2-dimensional boulders. It's main drawback is that it is made from a vinyl-like material (PlayMats say it's "poliester") and if the light is from the right direction there is an annoying reflection on the surface. I am sorely tempted to give it a coat of Testor's Dullcoat...:?...has anyone had any experience along these lines?

One question I am wrestling with is whether to build stone-tile bases for the ruined buildings, or if it would be sufficient to just plop them down as is and scatter some bits of rubble and foliage to blend them into the surface.

A little painting yet to do...the ruined temple in the left foreground, and the Scibor Celtic ruins in the rectangular building in the right rear. And I'll need to convert a few more minis from standard stands to Mila's Ultra-invisio stands. But it looks like things are well in hand.

Hey, it's a start!

Indeed! Wish we could be there.  ;)

Mike, do you have some promo Fortune cards to give away at the con?

Dave:

1. Wondering if you will be at Origins in June, where I plan on doing a game--or 2?--of Pulp Alley....it would be great to see you there.  :D Or maybe GenCon? That would give me an excuse to go there for the first time....

2. I currently have 20 [ :o ] Fightin' Dirty cards, so I think I'm good through Origins! Let's see...4 players at Pro Or Con, a game--or 2?--at Drums At the Rapids (Ft. Meigs, May 20-21), who knows how many at Origins....ran out of fingers...off go the shoes... ;D

I think they look great as is, no bases needed.

Indeed! Wish we could be there.
Me to...  :'(

Mr. Phipps is indeed right: the entire tent set - with campfire and camp table - is from Miniature Building Authority. I found it somewhere relatively cheap...eBay, probably. It's listed at $34.95 on the MBA website. You may also notice a number of Battlefield In a Box items on the table....as the years progress, the words "pre-painted" have an enhanced appeal.  :D
