Tried Open Combat with the next generation
I made 2 identical warbands and used simplified rules (only 4 stats and max one skill pr. mini) - we had a blast :D

Guess who won ::)

Great stuff, and an excellent board! I play a simplified version of Frostgrave with my six year-old daughter, plus Pulp Alley and Otherworld Fantasy Skirmish. Annoyingly her interest seems to have waned of late, but I'm hoping that'll change when I finally finish painting up all the Age of Sigmar starter set models - an army of golden knights and monsters should hopefully draw her back in!
(She beat me in our first game of Frostgrave too ... )

Good to see the indoctrination at work. Suggest a house rule that older player adds one to all dice throws just to give them a chance.

The game & miniatures look SPLENDID. Your opponent is ADORABLE. GREAT STUFF!

:D Judging by the grin in the last photo?
A great-looking setup, and I can imagine the tense fights over the treasure chest.
I've got a gaming buddy who wants to try out Open Combat, but I have to admit I never noticed it before. Going by your pics, it's a small 'gang' skirmish like Mordheim or SBH?

Gonna spoil her with nicely painted minis and nice terrain...the horror when she stumbles into a proper game shop and discovers the seedy underbelly of gaming! lol

Never heard of open combat. Who.makes it?

I love seeing stuff like this. Well done.

I'll echo these gentlemen, I've never heard of Open Combat and you've now piqued my curiosity. :)

Open Combat is a good, simple, skirmish for low fantasy/historicals made by second thunder https://www.secondthunder.com/
they recently went through KS to do a second edition which is almost ready to be out in print and pdf...
Excellent table and game... The opponent was clearly having lots of fun..
congratulations

Thanks for the link these rules look very promising.

seldon i right :)
Open Combat is a skirmish ruleset that allows you to use the minis you like (you make the stats yourself).
It's fast and simple, but advanced enough to challenge the players. Even though there are no magic rules, it's easy to fix it using skills and weapons described in the book - eg. use the rules for a crossbow for casting a lightning bolt and so on :)
Give it a shot - it's fun

Looks like fun was had by both! :)
You sure have created an excellent first gaming experience for the little lady; wonderful terrain and minis.
My little Khaleesi is 2,5 years old now, and already wants to sit next to daddy when he's 'painting planes' (X-wing ;) ) with her coloring book and crayons. I can only hope that in a couple of years, I will be able to post a similar thread, hopefully with a table that is as nice looking as yours.
Keep it up and keep her interested; before you know it, she'll be wanting to paint her own minis... ;)

Well I hope he doesn't take to much longer.

They have the books in hand shipping should start soon.
I have to say I'm less excited about this now that I have played other fantasy skirmish games.
-
I personally play more Epic Heroes/Brink of Battle.. but that system is more complex and has a steep learning curve and requires more effort to take advantage of the warband design system.. Open Combat seems to be a good simple skirmish game and it has some very nice scenario ideas and excellent production quality level..
It depends of what you are looking for.. Despite playing Epic Heroes, I still joined Open Combat KS because there is no reason to have extra set of rules to use with other players, one can never have enough rules :)
To introduce new players ( like the OP ) it is an excellent system...
just my two cents.. not an absolute opinion by any means :)
cheers

I'm sure the Little Ponys kick the marines butts...
