Title: Pig Iron Productions closing its doors...
Post by: Malebolgia on 17 February 2016, 01:07:40 PM
From the e-mail:

Quote
Pig Iron, time to move on...

After much deliberation and soul searching both myself and Lisa have decided to close down Pig Iron at the end of March 2016.

We've been wrestling with this decision for many, many months but the constant pressure of running two businesses at the same time has taken its toll on us both and we feel its time, after nearly fifteen years, to take a step back and live a more 'normal' and relaxed life. On top of the business side of things we’ve both felt the need to explore other areas outside of the gaming industry but the constant 'background noise' of Pig Iron has always taken priority.

Wargaming, sculpting, painting and scenery making will still play an important part of our lives so we’ll be keeping the Facebook site open to keep in touch with the wider gaming world.

Moving forward, it would be a shame for the miniatures to disappear and we’re currently exploring ways of keeping the ranges going with other parties and we’ll keep you updated on any developments over the next month or so. Any suggestions are most welcome so please get in touch on: enquiries@pig-iron-productions.com.

All current and new orders will be fulfilled until we close the webstore down but we won’t be getting any more stock from Griffin Moulds. If you need to get in touch regarding your order please email us at the address above (Don’t forget to check your spam folder for any replies).

The last fifteen years have been an exciting challenge and very rewarding plus we’ve met some great people along the way and hopefully made some cool miniatures for your games.

Sincere thanks to all the people who have purchased our miniatures and supported us in other ways over the years.

Lets not say goodbye, lets say, “Stay in touch…”

Simon and Lisa - Pig Iron.

What a shame! Love their models. So for all fans: get 'em while you can!

But their ferals.

I hope they do manage to sell them to someone because they're absolutely gorgeous.

What a shame indeed...  :(

I really hope they succeed in getting their lines continued by someone else, as they have some really nice products.

I'm embarrased to say though, that I've never quite come around to ordering stuff from them. I might just do that after all before they go the way of the dodo; I'd really still like to get my hands on a helping of gasmasked, helmeted heads for an IG conversion idea that has been lingering in the back of my head for many years now... ::)

Edited as thinking of wrong company ,
I did consider some of their kolony inner guard heads on a dwarf body to make sci fi mole men, never got round to it.

I may have to buy a bunch of head sprues before they close... what a terrible shame they have decided this course of action but I guess they are the best placed to make that decision.

I wish them well in their other endeavors and will say thanks for their service for so long... My Grymn Tunnel Fighters would never have happened, had it not been for the Kolony Inner Guard heads :)

I have a lot of their figures and a couple of their tanks. Really nice figures, they will be missed  :'(

May have to buy a few more ferals before they close.

Rats; the standard Colony heads are already sold out.  :'(

Ah well; that'll teach me not buying into projects immediately when I conceive of yet another cunning plan...  :D

You could buy the bumper pack of heads and then you not only get the Kolony heads but also a whole bunch of other ones for future use :) (I've just ordered them myself).

Sad day indeed. I used their various Kolony gas masked heads for an entire army of Imperial Guard. They were relatively unique in that you could get the same mask in helmet, bare head, covered helmet, and various officer caps.   I'm very glad I have enough extra in case I someday get to rounding out a few of the units.

Their figures were also great with a unique aesthetic that was both modern and boxy.

All the best to Simon and Lisa.  Hopefully you find buyers for your lines.

So you are saying we as a collective that we as a mass can't tell them they can't close down? Doesn't seem right.

And yes, a real sorry shame they will be closing down. I know their line has been apart of many people's lives in the hobby. I never realized it was 15 years worth but I knew it was a long long stretch. Wish they could make it work.

Just grabbed some ferals and extra heads. One of those companies I always meant to buy from but never quite got round to because of time or money but If they are going I felt had to grab some stuff before is disappeared even if I can't really afford it right now. Hopefully someone will pick up the line.

This was mentioned on the Reaper forum yesterday - link (http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/67198-pig-iron-productions-looking-to-sell-off-their-range/)

Interesting reply from the Reaper guy...

Pig Iron bones....

Purely for selfish reasons I hope the miniatures stay in the UK  :D

If anyone's looking to buy stuff, Battlefield Berlin and the Warstore have some parts of the range left.

I want to get a Feral HQ but Berlin's shipping is more than the miniature itself. :( Anyone wanna split shipping with me in the UK? :p

Interesting reply from the Reaper guy...

ReaperBryan (their rep on the forum) said
"We are aware of the situation. We are not really at liberty to discuss any particulars."
If that weren't enough to get your hopes up about a possible deal, the thread was then promptly locked.

Reaper is generally pretty good about letting folks discuss other miniature lines on their site, so this does make the whole exchange more interesting.

One thing I do hope is that if Reaper acquires the minis and decides not to put the tanks into production, that they get the molds to someone who will.  I had one of their tanks for a while and it's still a lovely kit.

An additional factor is that since the Pig Iron figs have a crisp aesthetic without alot of fiddly details/filigree/antennae, they would be absolutely ideal candidates for casting in the Bones material.

Probably a long shot, but here's to hoping....

That's exactly the same with me. Unfortunately right now is a time where cash is so tight I can't afford anything except food. :-[

I bought several stuff, Last Order - i think- this week. It would be terrible for us, when reaper would geht this fantastic Range. I Hope that northstar would buy it for the osprey scifi book this year. But only a wishful thinking

Northstar would be an excellent fit I would have thought. Plus it keeps the miniatures in the UK which is a bonus for me.

I thought that. Another link between northstar and Osprey with the Pig Iron Productions figures as a quasi official Tomorrow's war range.

A very great shame. Very nice people to deal with. Now I feel bad that I didn't buy more of their miniatures. And only painted so few of the ones I did buy.

Here, for posterity, are the ones I did get round to painting. (Just to remind you how gorgeous these figures are, and why it would be good to see them continue... )

I just received a lovely bag of heads from Pig Iron :)

I really hope that all of their efforts to produce such a great range are not wasted and get picked up by another company :)

I wish the Pig Iron family much happiness :)

Sad news. I just went to place a final order, unfortunately aside form a pack of blades there were only head sprues left really.  At least their stock is getting cleared out so the transition will be easy for them in that respect.  :)

When Lise told me earlier in the week this was happening it was very sad news indeed. Been the resident 'fambois' for years, it was Simon who got my spartan helmets cast for me. Great friends and that's why the decision is right for them
 Family comes first.

Sure they'll be picked up. Just sad to see them go.

Keep an eye on the store today, guys. I've been talking with one of them via email and they are getting some stock back from one of their distributors today. Or send them an email, I guess, but I'd rather you didn't all bury them. :p

When it is time for a decision is is right to make it. Sad for the customers, but very understandable. I hope the range stays in europe. Good luck to the Pig Iron Crew and maybe someday you will come back.

Just remembered that I needed some Pig Iron heads to turn my Reaper Nova Corp troopers into Cobra Vipers. Luckily they were one of few remaining in-stock head sprues.

To the very end, Pig Iron comes through.  Thanks!

I had to interrupt reading this thread by placing a frantic order for bits. I feel slightly calmer now.

Good luck to the whole Pig Iron crew, and thank you for all the cool toys I say! My Cawdor gangers were all based on Pig Iron types.

Placed an order for torsos, heads and legs to have a 'stock' of rebels/militia/lo-tech for my sci-fi campaign ideas. So there is still some stuff available.

I wish them all the best for the future too. And hope there's an easy transition to another firm to keep us supplied. Even the 'rubble-sprues' impressed the gaiters off of me, clever designing.

Captain Blood, awesome brushwork, well done  :)

You did a beautiful job on their APC's!

Pig Iron Heavy Infantry were my first painted minis when I returned to the hobby after nearly a decade away. I hope they make it back to market some day soon!

I have two of their Ironclad hulls.
I turned them into proxy "not Leman Russ" when I still played 40k (building turrets to suit out of plasticard and bits) and adding sponsons to suit (attached by magnets).  Still have them, though I no longer play that game. the tanks themselves were too nice to give up.

It was just announced on their FB page that they are back, with new owners (and no, that's not a April Fool's joke, it would be too cruel).

Well Helen and I have got everything back home. This weekend we will be sorting out the website. Then the webstore will reopen next week. New stock is on it's way. Then it's time to start adding to the ranges. Alex

New update on their FB page:

Hi guys just a quick note to hopefully cover your questions,
Simon and Lisa have sold Pig Iron to us Alex and Helen.
The ranges are intact and will be available to purchase when the webstore becomes active fingers crossed in the next few days.
We will be restocked by the end of April.
Simon will not be sculpting for us but we plan to keep the same feel and quality of miniatures going.
There will be some new models coming soon, vehicles to add to the Near Future range (by the end of April).
We are likley to be attending various wargames shows in the UK to promote Pig Iron Productions and hopefully bring the range to a new audience.

They HAVE sold the company though... so it must have been nice to get rid of some stock and reap the rewards before selling the business on.

Good for Simon and Lisa. Seem like nice folk, deserving of a windfall.

And as for new vehicles, sculpts and such in keeping with the aesthetic of the original range, I'm all for it.
