Post by: Yankeepedlar01 on February 22, 2016, 05:43:57 PM
...the fourth incarnation of an Action at Kunzdorf using different rule sets over on my Blog ~

A sample from the many pictures ~

All four versions are available to peruse:
Honours of War, Black Powder, Maurice and WRG Rules 1685-1845
So, pop over and see how they worked out and how we thought they differed.

Lovely, and just how many of us have far too many rules for the same period......

Odd wargamer?  We are grown men playing with toy soldiers, just how much odder can you be? A Walsall supporter?  lol

Great write up on all four battles.
(Yes I did go back and read all four.)
I like games were die rolls or cards play a roll in what happens.
After all, that old quote," the best plan changes after the first shot,"
or something like that. :D
Thanks for posting, I always enjoy your battle reports.

What a jolly good set of games David...

I find these days my lot are playing Black Powder or Hail Ceaser so much that they have become the house rules... :?
I am rather tempted by Honours of War... Do you think they would work for the French Revolution or the Russo-Swedish war?

All the best.  Aly

Great write ups.  Would love to hear your considered opinion on the top 3 (I think I know where you are on the WRG set)

thanks

We've only played them once but liked the feel of them. The author is definite that they are only SYW rules but you could try, why not?

Hard question Steve. I play BP quite a lot and like its nuances. Saying that I didn't warm to Last Argument of Kings myself, so felt Honours of War had more closely captured the feel of SYW battle. Maurice is a different creature, really a card game with figures I feel. For the SYW we will probably try HofW again before we decide and keep Maurice for AWI games on occasions! As ever, too much choice is not always a good thing!

A great series of games, I enjoyed the run out with WRG but they are of their time I feel. Look forward to the next game with Honours of War, but that will be a while, I would imagine you are SYW'd out now :)

Could always try them with our planned AWI game ;)

This shows that I am not invested in many rules (to be honest i have quite few miniatures painted I havent decided on rules at all yet)

But those are great reports and with very good information value on how these different systems play. Very interesting initiative.

Now you should do something like that with some Napoleonics please  :D
