Hey all,
I'm new here so don't "cold" shoulder me haha...
Here's my idea for a new soldier type..
Ogre: 300gc
Same stats as a snow troll with special rules being.. Large: (fills 2 soldier slots) and everything the Large rules have, Huge weapon: (2 handed weapon), Strong: (no move penalty when carrying treasure)
Let me know what you think
Until the next time happy gaming

I like it, and having it fill 2 slots will definitely make ppl think twice about getting more than one.
-
That's definitely one of the better balanced homebrewed soldiers.
-
I'd like someone who could come along and smack things hard.

I've just built two Warhammer Ogres to proxy as Snow Trolls . . . >:D
This gives me another option for them. I like it.

Hey all,
Glad you like my idea for the ogre but I did have another thought for a special rule. Joe5mc commented over on my introduction thread by saying that with magic items and certain spells that he could become way to powerful. So by trying to keep in spirit with the simplicity of the game I'm going to add 1 more special rule..
Thick headed: the ogre must pass a will save at a -4/+2 in order to have altering spells successfully cast upon him.
So my understanding is that Ogres are large hulking dumb brutes and therefore have a simple understanding about their job in the warband. Move.. Grab.. Smash!
So spells like fleet feet, strength or shield would make him almost impossible to counter on the battlefield. While opposite that trying to cast mind control or slow would be that much harder to cast cuz first you gotta get past his thick head.
As for whether or not allowing him to carry an extra item I actually don't see this as being that big of an issue. Seeing that his only equipment is essentially a 2 handed weapon. I'd like to think that even if you did find a ring/cloak of protection or boots of speed that you'd more often than not give them to one of your other soldiers of spellcasters that would benefit from it.
Anyways these are my thoughts so feel free to comment, give feedback and play test the Ogre in any of your games.
Until next time happy gaming

I would really love to see some kind of official rule for "Big Guys" but I think I might offer this up to our group as a house rule mostly just because I want to use Heresy's new Orge with table.

You can always use models as 'counts as', like summoning a Bear, and slapping your ogre on the table with the bear's stats.
Helps to make your warband a bit more thematic without breaking or modifying any rules, since it just 'counts as' that thing.

Hey all,
Had a chance to try out this 'big boy' in a game over the weekend and he needs some reworking done so this is what we came up with...
Ogre: 300gc
Same stats as a snow troll
Special rules: Large, Huge Weapon (counts as a 2 handed weapon), Big Boned (takes up 2 soldier slots), Strong (no move penalty when carrying treasure)....
And here's the reworked new rules...
Thick Headed (must take a Will Test for ANY spell cast upon him vs the casting roll. In addition if the spell requires the target to take a Will Test he adds an additional +2 to his roll) And last but not least (cannot carry additional items)
So a small recap of the game with the ogre... He Is NASTY!!! Well when he gets into combat anyways and I used Leap on him to get him into combat quicker, which was kinda cheeky on my part, but it was a test game which didn't effect the campaign at all and I did warn my opponent before hand so.....
Well anyways my opponent came at him with everything he had which allowed me to use my remaining guys as treasure hunters. My opponent decided to go after the Big Guy and after slowly whittling down his health, a lowly infantryman scored a critical hit and took him down!!!
After that I basically made off with most of the treasure (not that it really mattered cuz it was only a test game) but it was a lot of fun had by all... Then it came time to review the Ogre...
It was unanimous that he was just too powerful!! Also my original wording of the Thick Headed rule was confusing and hard to follow especially in the middle of a heated battle so we reworked it in a gentlemanly manner and came up with these NEW rules.
We'll see how it goes next time
Until then happy gaming

I like the idea, but I'm not convinced with the current "Thick Headed" rule - seems to be a bit of a buff against offensive spells cast at it. I just don't see being thick as a defence against a elemental bolt or poison dart for example.

I can't access my rulebook at the moment, so what are the snow troll stats?
