I must admit that I read the note after looking at the first pic and wondered what strange wargame I was looking at and when the peaceful village scene would erupt in warfare as a platoon of kilted highlanders led a bayonet charge.

It was not to be!

And all the better for it.

No highlanders, but a gang of bedouins will swipe in and abduct the European women for their Sheik's harem  :D

What a hook for a .45A rescue scenario  ;)

Very nice figures and setting!

I can recognise Eureka and Foundry figures. What else have you used?

Those are lovely pics, Piero. Very seasonal  :D

I don't remember, they are very old, could be Connoisseurs range.

I also have some of those from years ago and I thought you were right about them being Connoisseur, but the website doesn't list them:

http://www.bicorne.net/catalog/index.php/cPath/292_102_154_165

I then thought they may be Hinchliffe:

http://www.hinchliffe.co.uk/home.htm

but again no luck there  ???

This is a little annoying, as I'd like to get some more in the future  :(

according to Google translate the Italian word PRESEPIO or PRESEPE is CRIB in english and CRECHE in french. According to wikipedia "a crib is an infant bed in American English (British English: cot)".

Where are St Mary and St Joseph? I cannot see them in your picture.

The New American Bible http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0839/__PVB.HTM (http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0839/__PVB.HTM) call them Magi
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, (Mt 2,1)

Magi: originally a designation of the Persian priestly caste, the word became used of those who were regarded as having more than human knowledge. Matthew's magi are astrologers.

The bible say they bring 3 different gift
"They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh." (Mt 2,11)

We have the same tradition in Sweden. We call it 'krubba', which means fodder through. The wife and I being rationalists/atheists/Darwininist/'brights'/ or what ever the label is, we did a animal nativity scene with gorillas last year. :)

very funny :-*
in the past I have done my presepes-nativity scene in India-NWF  1900 era , American Plains with Indians in 1870;during the French and Indian war 1750,  and in Palestine ancient time.
the locations are connected with my principal wargame's period interest :D

So am I, but my mother isn't, so each Christmas, she really likes set her crèche - as pierrebi rightly translate :

(Sorry for the crappy photos, it was a quick shot from a visit the last WE).
For the record, the figurines are called santons de Provence (where they came from) and the scenery is far more personnal   ;)

To Pierrebi, Joseph & Marie are in the background : the villagers have to walk to them till the 24th December.
( I advanced them when I was a kid : now, don't ask from where came my figs addiction :) )

meow,
Matt

PS : @ Shikari Sahib
It's a really nice idea to convert your figs in a "presepe" and I really like the way you vary the settings...

Just occured to me that it's preseb in Welsh. I'm assuming that it's a Latin word the Romans brought with them.

Today Christmass is a birthdayparty with out the celebrated person :(
You cannot believe the littlle baby is God children, but how can you celebrate his birth day with out him?
You cannot believe the little baby is God, but how cannot understand his message of peace and attention to pour people?
You cannot believe the little baby is God, but how cannot understand the christmass is a time to go to meet other people?

even if we christian people know that Jesus never born in Betlhem, never listened to singing angels, never had presents from shepherds, never had presents from magi ... we use this symbols to say respect to poor people and to say we have to spend some time to meet other people ... this is christmass even if they tell us we have to spend money! Is a message everyboy can understand and recognise good, and Nativity scene tell us this message. If you believe that this a God message is OK, but if you do not believe in God why not listening to this little child message?

Pierrebi,

I am terribly embarrassed because you quoted me, so out of politeness, I feel obliged to answer.
But I'm sure you know how it's hard to explain oneself in a foreign langage.
So to keep it short, and in true respect, I just think it is not the place for proselytism.

With regards,
Matthieu

I agree on that. The problem is that most of those believing in God, seldom listen to this message!

I just think it is not the place for proselytism.

Matthieu

I agree on that, too!

Just for making intriguing somewhere in the scripts it is mentioned that it  was a fourth king/wise man/mago, who missed the event ....

sorry, in true respect, to say to have a day in one year to think about poor people and to spend one day togheter with other people is not proselytism ...  I cannot believe you think that to suggest "wisdom things" is a hidden way to do proselytism.

If you believe that this a God message is OK, but if you do not believe in God why not listening to this little child message?

I agree on that. The problem is that most of those believing in God, seldom listen to this message!

All around the world billion of people spend their time to stay with poor people, to help them, and almost everybody has got friend and spend time with them ... (lot of them do not believe in God) IMHO saying this is not proselitysm.
Have a nice Christmass time!

this a fair tale or a leggend.
