Title: Upcoming Pirate range from Black Tree Design
Post by: cianty on December 15, 2008, 09:49:17 AM
I've been emailing with Flis Wojtek about his upcoming pirate miniatures range for Black Tree Design.

You can see photos of his excellent sculpts on my tabletop blog.

If you like them, please leave a message or bugger john at BTD about releasing them sooner.  :D

Not sure thats the best use of the word "bugger" :o

lovely looking figures though, some nice characters. I like the chap sitting on the barrel.

It would certainly get his attention, though.  lol

Some interesting sculpts there. Bit fanciful but my favorite is the guy carrying the treasure chest.

It is in keeping with that nautical tradition of rum sodomy and the lash ;)

I do like some of them which would be good for other 18th Century fare but my one reservation is the service from BTD :(

Yeah, but a couple of those would be really great for small scale action....  ;D ;D

LOL, yeah... I meant "to bug"... of course..  ::)

my one reservation is the service from BTD :(

Can you elaborate on that, please?

There are issues that some other LAFers have had with service from BTD. Elsewhere on the forum there are a few threads detailing the events, lots of people waiting months to receive orders etc and lack of communication from BTD. I have never had a problem with them myself, but it seems to be a common occurence.

They're not quite correct yet though.  :P

However, I'm sure you did your best in the short order, as you always do moderating this most magnificent forum on LAF.

Great stuff, Cianty!  Those look really nice.  Is that your ship posted on your blog?  BTW, I am Goomb from Da Warpath, Terragenesis and Tom's.  I found this site from your post on Tom's actually.

Anyway, great stuff.  These would look great on my fleet! The older gent sitting on the barrel is particularly nice, as is the treasure chest.  Would be a great objective in a game.

The swabby and the guy with the molotov cocktail (i believe that's what it is) look awesome.

Hi, Goomb! Thank you! Good to see you're still alive.  :)

I am not sure which ship you mean but my guess is "no". If you mean one of the ships from my Collecting Ships for Tabletop Games (http://cianty-tabletop.blogspot.com/2008/10/setting-sail-collecting-ships-for.html) article, then the answer is "no". I have the Sea Dog and the Tenders from Games of War (http://www.gamesofwar.net/acatalog/Pirate_Supplies_Store.html), but I have yet to present them in a proper post on the blog.

The older gent sitting on the barrel is particularly nice, as is the treasure chest.

Yeah, that one along with the cook are my favourites.

Those are definitely some great poses...I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of them!! As Malamute stated, there are many that have had bad service from BTD. I remember when I put in my first order with them, which was a significant sized order a couple of years back around Christmas time's rush. They shipped out my package in two boxes. I received one of the boxes, but not the other. I called them, yes, from Canada, so that I could get them early in their morning, and before I left for work. They were very friendly, helpful and courteous. They apologized and then re-sent the entire order, and included extra figures, which I didn't expect. I contacted them again to tell them that they had re-sent the entire order and not just the missing figures...their reply was "It was our mistake, we are sorry for the inconvenience!" I even offered to re-send the extra figures back but they declined and told me to enjoy them. I was very impressed and have ordered from them again with no problems.

So getting back to the Pirates...will the line be extended? When did you say the line would be available?
Thanks in advance, and good luck to yourself and BTD.
Regards,
Hitman

Very nice sculpts but I will never again order from BTD. In recent years I have placed 2 orders with them. In both cases I had to contact Mastercard to get a refund due to the inability of BTD to deliver/communicate.

They're great! I've had a hit and miss service with Black Tree, so I'd give it a go.

Any news on a release date?

I'll ask the sculptor. Maybe he has some news (though I don't really expect that...).

I've talked to Wojtek and he told me that the minis are now in possession of BTD. So it's up to them to release the minis now. Maybe it will help to write them a few emails and request the pirates. :)

I did write them last December but didn't get a reply though... :?

Heck I will write them Cianty.  I want to see you paint them bad boys up.  Always a pleasure seeing your works of art, beit Pirates or BTB.

I am flattered... ::) But remember that Tom List painted my Black Scorpion pirates for me. Credit where credit is due! :) He is already working on the next project for me...

Hmm yeah I remember going all "wohooo!" when I first saw them...

I've decided that 2010 will be the year of the pirate, so they better get them out before that.

Yay, cool! Thanks a lot, Matakishi! You're the only one it seems who got a reply from BTD - I know I didn't get one.
