Title: Painting question

Hey Guys

I have been painting my 28mm German winter grenadiers for a while and now and then I see pictures of the white tunic with a red elbow band. I was wondering what does that red line mean?

It's a combat identification band, so you remain camouflaged but if you encounter anyone close up and they are in whites with no band you know they are enemy. We used a similar thing in the jungle, a coloured band in the hat.
