Title: Sharp Practice 2 Playthrough
Post by: Lardy Rich on 06 March 2016, 12:29:37 PM
Afternoon all.

We've been busy bunnies on Lard Island over the past nine months, working on the second edition of Sharp Practice.  We are now getting this ready for the printers so we thought you might be interested in a bit of a breakdown of play so you can see the rules for the first time, or see the differences if you are familiar with the first edition.

You'll find the playthrough on Lard Island News, here:  http://toofatlardies.co.uk/blog/?p=5479

And here are some snaps of the game in play as we all like pretty pictures...

Richard has announced a release date of St George's Day (April 23rd) so it might not be available at Salute.

Looks interesting , I will definitely pick it up. :)
It look s like  it's moving away from the character driven narrative of the original game?

As long as it's still got the Tiffin card, that'll be fine and dandy...  ::)  >:(  ;D

(Six fecking rounds standing there in the open getting shot to pieces and unable to move - not that I'm bitter... )
;)

It clearly has had a lasting effect on him.  lol

Bad generals always blame the rules/dice/cards etc  lol

Very nice and very interesting. I like how flag mechanic works.
Pity mule train support was useless in this game as i wonder how it would work in practice.

There are random events that leave units short of ammunition or in need of water to clean out their muskets/rifles.  They operate at reduced effectiveness until they get their hands on some ammo or some water.  The mule train carries one dose of each.

That's why, by the looks of it, the new command flag cards/chips are so good - save up enough of them and when the Tiffin is drawn you can activate those units who have been unable to move thus far that turn. Great stuff. I love Sharp Practice but I too have felt the sting of a game where my cards just don't come up, and my men are a bumbling mess!

Haven't we all? Sometimes I feared I might be a secret masochist for liking Sharp Practice so much…  lol

I'm very much looking forward to this, the improvements sound really cool!

As noted, the second edition will allow you that choice - do I get an immediate benefit for unit A, or do I leave that Command card there for unit B which is on its own.  It's now not normally a random event, but a choice you have made to do other things.

That read through made me even more interested in the rules. Was the 65 point game was a larger sized one? What would be a decent total for an evening's game?

One of the things that sounded very interesting was the way the deployment rules cut down the initial game element where not a great deal often happens. Very slick.

Morning all,

Just to let you know that I have put up another game report, this time for the Indian Mutiny.  I've shoved it on a different board a it is colonial, so you can see it here:

Sweet battle report.

Damn! That made me go searching Ebay for Indian Mutiny figures but I stayed strong!  lol

I did check my British and French Napoleonic forces yesterday and I think I have sufficient to play small games of SPv2.
