Title: 10-Minute Building -- Pulp Alley
Post by: d phipps on March 08, 2016, 12:34:08 AM
Here are some pics of Mila putting together our new Pulp Alley building in about 10 minutes.

This is still a prototype and a few minor changes are planned, but I think you'll enjoy seeing this........

12:00 -- Mila arranges the 11 pieces needed to complete the model --

12:01 -- Mila glues the left side to the base --

12:02 -- Mila glues the front and back of the top piece together (and sets it aside for later) --

12:03 -- Next she glues the back wall to the base piece --

12:05 -- Glues the 2nd floor back wall in place --

12:06 -- She glues the front in place --

12:07 -- She takes a minute answer an "urgent" text from her boyfriend... (bleh!)

12:08 -- Glues the top on --

12:09 -- Mila slides the roof pieces into place (no glue) --

12:10 -- Glues on the front sign --

And it is all put together!

Dave, every time you post an update, I'm put in mind of an old prospector chipping away deep in his mine, striking ever closer to a rich vein.

Which is not to say that I think wargames scenery is going to be the motherlode, but this has more potential than most commercial wargaming scenery projects than I've seen in years. Depending on price point and margins, this could really be a big earner for you... in relative terms (i.e. for a wargame publisher), of course.  ;)

These look awesome, and between a few of them, and the Dust Tactics Tenements and Mantic battlezones stuff I already own, I'll have a pretty nice "old US main street" brick downtown for Fallout.  :D

Yes indeed, we are likely to see a few of these show up as Post Apocalyptic conversions!  :-* :-* :-*

Gimme some of this parts and I will beginn today! lol

I can see a change in the printquality of the pieces. are the roofs made with the same printer or done on a cheaper Filamentprinter? The Surfacequality is not the same smooth one like on the bricks.

Am excited about them being produced.

Yup, I am printing 4 of the pieces on a high-end filament printer. This keeps the cost a bit lower and by splitting the job between two printers I can complete it quicker. Plus, I just like the difference in texture.  ;)

brick red spray primer (2 minutes), drybursh orange-red (2 minutes), leaves 6 minutes to do trim by hand, i think it can be done - at least to a tabletop game standard.

@dave- what's the purpose of the "base" thing - just extra stability?  allow "half height" sections to be used?  is it really needed (some earlier versions didn't use it)?   just an idea of maybe having some "base" things also be brick texture.

Yes, it is for added stability and to ensure the corners are true right-angles.

No, it is not "needed". I recently put together a building just using some of the older parts and it all went together perfectly fine. But without it, I notice that the mid-point of the long wall has a bit of give and flexes if you squeeze it in the middle. Even though there is not a join there, our buildings get tons of rough handling so I prefer having more support in the middle.

It is also a way of keeping the price down. That piece is thicker and does not have much detail, so I can print it on the filament printer.

Lastly, the building is too big to run on a single plate so by printing four of the larger/simpler pieces on the filament printer I can split the job between two machines.  ;)

I'm hoping I can start taking a few pre-orders by April.

THANKS so much in your interest!
