Title: A Howl in the Darkness
Post by: Calumma on March 13, 2016, 07:12:41 AM
I played a game of Frostgrave with my son and one of his friends based on the mini campaign recently published in Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy.

Two warbands set out to discover the fate of a caravan that failed to reach Frostgrave. I took on the role of gamesmaster and controlled the wolves. For this campaign we played using only Captains and left the wizards safely tucked up in bed.

The game takes place on the outskirts of Frostgrave. Here's a shot of the board.

I've posted a teaser to the game on my blog:

With the main game write up here:

We had a lot of fun playing this game and I'm now working on the follow-up...

That is a gorgeous table! I also like your men and their wonderful looking shields!

Great story as well. I love the "just a scratch" comment at the end for some ominous foreshadowing.

Yes, I'll have fun with that one! Hopefully we'll get a couple of games in before the next full moon, so the kids will no doubt forget all about it.

Thanks very much! To help separate the two warbands we played with dwarves and Vikings. The shields are all LBM transfers. Hopefully I'll get the boys to make and paint their own warbands soon. I can then concentrate on painting monsters and devising devious scenarios!

Great looking table! I also bought some of those ruins and never got round to painting up, but seeing yours has inspired me into action.

Thanks, but I can't take credit for the castle ruins. They came pre-painted. The trees are all cheap Chinese trees off eBay that I simply rebased. I'm making some more with 40mm bases that will be a better fit for some of the larger woods.

Is that one of the older GW cloth-backed mats you're using for the groundcover?

Yes it's one of the old GW grass battle mats. To be honest it's a bit too bright for my tastes, but is useful and has seen lots of action. One day I'll build a proper gaming table!
