Hey guys, got a new one for you. This one is based on the excellent design by LAF's own Blodwin, found here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=9801.msg659035#msg659035 I contacted him to see if I could try and make that out of MDF. He was up for it and gave advice along the way. I hit a few month stumbling point while I figured out how to make the zeppelins, but we got there in the end.
I'm really proud of the results as it represents at least 80 hours of design trial and error. I hope you like it!

Every Prussian and/or Sky Pirate needs a vessel that suits them when they fly the deadly skies. Here is the Frederik Class Airship to fill that roll.
I’m very happy to get this guy out for sale, it represents many hours of hard work. It’s just the thing to ferry your dastardly air travelers around the table.

It’s 54cm long and 17cm high (21inches long by 17inches tall colonials) with lots of deck space for action and features for character.
Shipping
I learned a lot while building the past few ships and I’ve managed to get the shipping costs down by maximizing my material when building, so this one is much cheaper to ship than our Martian Airship.

You can find it at my site http://crossoverminiatures.com/product/frederick-class-airship/ It's on sale for the next two weeks...

I just ordered mine! :D
Now if someone would make a Royal Navy nef.... ;)
-
Thanks mate! I've got one in the queue, but I have two projects to knock out first. One is one the edge of launching already, but for modern gamers, then it's back to the VSF skies :) and the Royal Navy...

:o :o :o
Beautiful!!
-
Heck, I like the basic shape sans bags and flying bridge as a super-Aphid.
Still fighting the Screw Kite mind you. ::)

Interesting Beast, I could try and whip one up for you if you wanted?

Get thee behind me... er... Fergal! :D
Let me have a long look at the images on your site; I started to ask for the assembly instructions, but those piccies ought to be enough.

Very nice. I like the clear acrylic at the back simulating a turning propeller. Nice!
-
Honestly, I would want an option to order it without the zeppelin bags - because I know I would leave them off. Otherwise, it is a sexy little beast.
-
It will knock off quite a little bit of the price without the zeppelins as well. Let me have a week or so. The problem is finding time to put it together and make directions. Though the changes would be so slight that you'd be able to work it out with the existing directions.
I might be able to knock up another version of the front superstructure as well. If it fit in the same holes, it won't kill me. Let me know if you guys are serious about it before I pile in more time. I don't mind doing it if it will put a smile on someone's face, but I've got a lot of time in already so it's got to have some business benefit. :)
-
Quick question about the superstructure: are the two front, sloped pieces the same dimensions? One with view holes, the lower without?
I can't really 'get serious' until I get time to sort out my issues with the kite. However, I'm trying REAL hard not to get excited about an Aphid with four instead of two gun balconies. >:(

Exact same piece. Makes it easy design wise that similar pieces like that are the same dimensions.
-
Sure looked like that, but you know about the ol' eyeball Mk. I... ;)
I'm thinking a single level superstructure, with a flying bridge without wings, but I'm also dithering with the idea of a small fore turret. Then, of course, would have to replace the half deck/ceiling... I'M SO TORN! lol

Alright Mr. Beast, let me know what you think. I couldn't help myself tonight, I had to see what she looked like. I don't think the look is complete without the railings, but this gives you the idea. Removed the two top levels and the airbags (my favorite part of the old design, but happy to alter it).

Damn, you, I really like it. >:(
Yes, I'd fiddle a bit here and there, but that's a handsome, dangerous lady.

Honestly, I like that better than the bags - but I have always preferred a more streamline look. What would be the damage for that?

Sinewgrab, I have one more modification to make this weekend, then I have to cut one to see the time it takes. I'm thinking it might be about 2/3 to 3/4 of the time so a pretty significant savings. I want to get it done by this weekend, so I'll have more info soon.
Any modification requests should be in by the end of the day today :) I'm open to suggestions, but can't guarantee changes.
-
That would be cool for the base of a mini Helicarrier type ship. Any thoughts of those for the supers and minions?
-
I like both designs!
Now I'll need one of each!
;D
-
I'll have the other up tomorrow hopefully :P
Ordering two will certainly save on shipping!
-
Looking great!

I know it's an imposition, but could we get piccies with figs, especially the weather bridge?
Doug

No imposition at all! Here's a few photos I took before, though it's to late for any changes. I just finished taking all the photos for the instructions and I just need to take a few photos for the store and it's a wrap.

Preview pics of the new variant, looks like it will be $68 too!

Looks great. :)

That's what I needed!
Forget the possible 'fiddling' with the weather bridge. Looks FANTASTIC.

I can't wait until I can order mine! :D

Impressive! :o

Thanks for all the input. I really like the zeppelins and it's what makes the model for me, but it's always important to take into account other folks views, so I really appreciate the feedback and I hope you like what I've come up with.

No, Rusti, we got that we broke your heart. I know, you'll never forgive us. Sniffling all the way to the bank, I assume.
Mind you, I'm STILL thinking of repositioning the cables. lol
Doug
-
If you want Beast, I'll make you one without the peg holes on the 'balconies', so you can stretch the rails across it :) Removing things is easy!
-
Did I say sniffling? Looks like a smirk to me.
Thanks, I'll let you know. ;)

It may seem like I'm pandering to you, BUT that's the whole reason that I got into this gig. I spent a lot of time making miniatures, where I hired artists and artisans to get things done. The delays were measured in MONTHS and it killed me to have an idea I couldn't execute for 6 months and being subject to others whims/schedules. Now with the laser, I'm truly a 'one-man-band' and can be responsive in a way never possible before. Catch me while I'm still in the 'hey this is fun' zone before I get jaded :)
-
Hell, I am good with it. This is in my next few months splurge list - may even go for the pair, and try to talk you into one with a flying bridge and one without...but it will have to wait until after this month, and maybe until June. :?

That's the spirit! Congrats, fergal. ;)

1) If I didn't think you could take a bit of ribbing, I would have stopped long ago. Now, I assume you have to let others know it's teasing, of course.
2) One man's pander is another man's service.
Years ago, having gone into high-end shoppes and wishing I had a stout cudgel when I'd been swarmed by folks trying spray stuff on me, or offer to be my 'personal shopper', I testify you're definitely on the service side. ;)
