Made a start on some 15mm goodies to help the kids at work with their GCSE Coursework on tactics in the two world wars. First up, some Shermans.

Some more details on the blog as well as shots of the Wehrmacht in progress:

Nice painting, they look good.
-
Those look great. I've been thinking about picking up some 15mm armour to play some Bolt Action tank battles so your comments about PSC tanks are very useful.
-
Thanks chaps.
In terms of PSC, I think the miniatures are better than the Battlefront lead ones.
As you can see I've got the first few Wehrmach troops done: a mix of PSC and Battlefront.

Like them a lot.
Well painted.

Thanks Marine.

"Bite me"? lol
These are pretty good, as are the figure bases.
What is GCSE?
-
GCSE is the secondary school qualification here in England and Wales. General Certificate In Secondary Education - so the big exam kids take at 16. So for part of their exam the kids have to explain the how the different tactics between the two world wars effected the casualty rates.
Glad you like them.

I've finally finished off the German infantry units for Iron Cross

I've also started building an objective marker from one of the Zveda 1/100 little kits. Has anyone tried these? Phenomenally detailed little kits, even down to the wishbone suspension - and dirt cheap.

As always, more pictures on the blog. http://critfailure.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/the-wehrmacht-and-excellent-customer.html
I'd just like to take a moment to big up Great Escape Games for those people that don't read the blog entry - they sent one of the wrong command token sets with the Iron Cross rules. Not only did they send out the correct set with no quibbles, they graciously let me keep the British set sent in error. That is top flight customer services and I'll definitely be using them again.

I've written a review of IronCross and posting some pics from the test game on my blog. http://critfailure.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/where-iron-crosses-grow.html
Gameplay is very simple; there are no ranges except for things such as PIATs and Panzerfausts. If you can see it, you can shoot it. This is elegant as it makes the use of terrain and movement key, exactly as it was in Western Europe. All die rolls are made on a 1d10 or 1d6 and the core mechanics are pretty simple to grasp; taking incoming fire effects your morale and when a unit's morale is depleted they bolt. Again, this is an accurate representation of the historical reality, especially when Units can fall back and attempt to regroup - in effect 'healing'; so it becomes a question for the commander of whether to press an attack or whether to try to preserve your troops. Troops have their combat effectiveness degraded as their morale suffers. The entire rules - including the incredibly elegant initiative system - are constructed around this idea of forcing the player make manage resources and make choices; these are the usual things we do in games, obviously, but this time they're reflected in the mechanics of mobile modern warfare.
Have a look on the blog if you want to read the rest.

We've picked up quite a few - and they have some interesting kits such as the Matilda I and the Crusader, or the multi-turret Russian T35.
The Russian trucks look clunky enough that we have kitbashed a few for interwar use, including plastic card armoured truck versions for German Freikorps use.

p.s.
Which school are you with?
We are in Scarborough

Hello chaps; back for a bit more WW2 action but this time in 28mm.
I treated myself to Oddball's Sherman from Warlord and spent a bit of time painting it up.
