Inspired by a very good article in the most recent Slingshot I am looking for suitable figures for Jason and his merry crew.
Foundry I hear you say. Unfortunately they are a bit pricey and spread over several packs. Whilst the rank and file crew are no problem I wondered if anyone else made the heroes?
Another problem is their first opponents the Gegenes - 6 armed stone throwing wild men. And no I don't do conversions. If there is nothing obvious out there the article suggests using cavemen or Neanderthals as an alternative.
Any ideas?

Have a look through the Crooked Dice 7TV forum http://www.crooked-dice.co.uk/forum/Blah.pl?b-7thVo/ (http://www.crooked-dice.co.uk/forum/Blah.pl?b-7thVo/)
The folks there have a few samples though a fair number a Foundry fans :(

I would think that most of the Argonauts would be represented just fine by any of the hoplite ranges out there. A box of Victrix plastics would cover pretty much the entire crew, other than a few distinct characters like Herakles, Zetes & brother, and maybe Orpheus (if you really want him to have that lyre).
Off the top of my head, I can only think of the Reaper and Northstar models for Herakles. Not sure if either is cheaper than Foundry but they are sold individually, so might be more convenient, in any case.
I don't know of anyone besides Foundry that makes Zetes, and even then they don't make his brother, but attaching a pair of wings to the back of an otherwise ordinary model doesn't sound too hard.
For Orpheus, you could always just paint a lyre onto his shield to mark him out.
I'm afraid to say that I don't know of any six-armed men, and I know you stated you don't do conversions, but using plastics of some kind would make it exceptionally easy to pull this off, if you wanted to. I would do one pair of arms below the other, and the third pair behind and between those.

Thanks for the ideas
The Reaper Hercules looks a very nice model. It is not a company that I have ever used but I presume the figures would be a fair bit bigger than Foundry - perhaps not unreasonable for Hercules

For Gegenes you could look at Martians from Victorian Sci Fi they often have 4 arms and are suitably wild looking.

He is quite a bit bigger, but it is Hercules! ;)
I use him to lead a Sea People force for some raids on early Troy. A nightmare for those sensitive abt history, but a fine looking bunch!

Bronze Age has a few good options...

A friend of mine approached himself to that project, have a peek at his blog, you may find some useful stuff of how he did some things:
