This is just partly relevant, but as I am a very happy man right now I would like to share with people who may just get how inspiring last Saturday night was.
As some members have been kind to notice, I recently turned 50. Early last week my wife told me to turn up in vintage black tie at an hotel in Stockholm. Encountering 4 of my best friends turned up for G&Ts and then ushered me to... lo and behold... the Museum of Mediterranean History in Stockholm. She had booked the restaurant located in the midst of all the sarcophagi, canopic jars, roman busts, Eutruscan bronzes and Turkish rugs. Awaiting in this splendor was 50 of my family /including the young Hammers in fezes" and friends, all dressed up to the theme of "The English Patient", "The Mummy" and "Indiana Jones". A rocking party! I am still flabbergasted and trying to absorb it all. I don't care that I may never be able to set foot in Mena House Hotel, now I have been able to do the second best thing. :D
The Masked Ottoman strikes again!

Yes. And I am bound to realize that pulp museum scenery I have had in mind for a while.

Fezes are cool! ;D
Great surprise!

Great surprise!
Yes, I was rather taken. My lovely wife forgot my Wolseley, but fezes go even better with dinnerjacket, don't you think?

These two sinister yet suave looking Ottomans (my cousin and brother in law) seem like being just ready to pull a Broomhandle or a Bergman MP out of some hidden pocket, don't you agree?

Congratulations! That's a REALLY cool idea. You're a lucky man Mr Hammers! And I hope the museum gave you something to celebrate your birthday. It looks like they had plenty of spare stuff lying around anyway! ;)

Yes. And as the night grew longer quite a few people tried to resurrect mummies by dancing two-step with them to the tunes of Noel Coward.

Unbelievable :D
A dream has come true, congrats, Peder, you're a lucky guy, surrounded by a great family and friends and now another unforgettable memory richer :)
Happy Birthday!

Very, very cool.
Happy 50th birthday.
You are so lucky having a wife throwing you a great party.
Does she war game? :)

I am humbly aware of it. She is, as Cole Porter said, 'The Top'. And no, she doesn't 'get' wargaming but realizes that many aspects of it is creative and artistic. She does have the same Jazz Age romantic streak as I do.

Brilliant Peder. What a lovely thing to have done.
What's really quite annoying is that you don't look remotely like you're 50. You look like you're about 25! Gah! So unfair ;) lol

Well, know what they say. Black is slimming and a fez shaves at least 10 years of anyones age.
And let me tell you, C, my wife did all the invitations (as it was a surprise party). I only wish I had had the sense to introduce her to some of the old LAF guard becase you would so get the mood.

I shall stop gushing now.
-
Phenomenal!
You better be planning some sort of reciprocal surprise for wifey now... ;)
-
Absolutely top drawer idea from the missus, old chap.
Bloody brilliant!
:-* :-*
Beats all the 'nights at the museum' that I have ever had.
You lucky, lucky bastard!
Happy (belated) Birthday, Old Bean!
:D ;)

Very cool birthday surprise and welcome to the other side.

Well you have the advantage of me because you've met my wife :)
I look forward to meeting yours, when I finally make that fabled voyage to the walls of Visby!

Fantastic idea, well done Mrs Hammers! everybody looks great and you are right about the fez, it sits perfectly alongside the dinner jacket. :)
My 50th is next year, so my lovely wife has to do something special to top this. ( I wil lbe showing her the photos later) ;)
