Hi
Looking for some advice before I "experiment" and mess up some figures.
I've primed some Warlord Gates of Antares Concord troops with Citadel Corax white and have covered them with a fairly controlled wash of Agrax Earthshade.
I want to take them back up to white but I'm not sure how to. I could "dampbrush" them with a white paint but was considering a light airbrush with white instead.
Would this work and are there any better options?
Thanks
Lea

Would depend on the airbrush and how fine a dusting it could render - you could try dry brushing white that has been mixed with some of the shades of the mini as a pure white can be too harsh and use a very large soft brush so that you can do the dry brushing gently and slowly so that if the result is not ideal there is no messing up of your paint job.

You would have the best luck dry brushing as Golgotha suggests. It is more controlled. Also, once done, you can eliminate much of the typical signs of dry brushing by using an appropriate shaded and controlled glaze coating.
It would be a challenge to accomplish the same level of precision with an airbrush. Maybe if you created a white glaze--Warcolours makes a line of transparent paints, for example--you could get similar results via the airbrush and more quickly.

It wouldn't be too difficult to achieve the look your after with an airbrush. It would require some light coats of paint built up in layers until your happy with the coverage. The technique your looking for is pre shading or the more in vogue name for it is the 'Black & White ' method. Google either term and there are lots of tutorials. I use it quite a lot even at 15mm, it's pretty simple to do

This chap uses said method on an aircraft https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3s6tgy2HUk
you have to watch this one as well as the next two I guess a similar method could be used on a mini.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll try out the different techniques on some spare Space Marines.

That is the method I used on this:

For the complete process go to: http://wargamesgazette.com/airbrush-painting/
The first pictures show the preshading technic. You could also use a very light airbrush mist of the base color after painting in all highlights etc to make the layering more smooth . You need a very precise airbrush for this!
Hope that helps

Hi
I've been meaning to post an update to my enquiry and the suggestions people made.
In the end, I went for a mix of the advice. I primed with white spray, used Citadel shade liberally then applied a "wet" drybrush and finally blended with the airbrush.
It pretty much worked how I wanted. Thanks again for all the advice.
