Title: Day Glo Pigments?
Post by: Lawful Evil on April 12, 2016, 01:56:58 PM
Hey guys, I'm having trouble locating powdered pigments that go by the descriptor 'day glo'. I've seen some neat OSL effects created with them and I'd like to have a go myself. Anyone know where I can buy some from?

Can't help you with those pigments, but do you have any pics of, or links to examples of the OSL effects you mention? I'm curious to see how they look...

Have a look at http://magie-miniatures.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/dark-eldar-step-by-step-part-7-osl.html

That links to http://www.pk-pro.de/PK-PRO-Pigmente_1 and the glowing green pigment.

Interesting.

What they're basically doing is creating a paint with their pigment powders and using that to glaze on the effects.

I do those same effects on the engines of my X-Wing ships, but with simple Vallejo dayglo paints, which do exactly the same. So instead of trying to get hold of those powders and then medium etc, why not just get yourself some ready made paints/glazes?

I'm not convinced by their blue though; I still use standard paints for that, but the magenta, orangeand yellow are very effective indeed. Haven't tried the green yet...

Sry but all thos special colors and pigments are wasted money imo. I paint OSl effects a very long time and had never need those specials. There are two very simple Colorrecipes to achive green and blue glows

green glow:White, Vallejo Livery Green,Vallejo Dark Green

to see here in Action on the Bases: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=64157.555 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=64157.555)

blue glow: White, Vallejo Electric Blue, Vallejo Imperial Blue

to see here in Action on the weapon: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=64157.570 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=64157.570)

All this glazing methods are nice and great for showcase stuff, but for 90% of all Paintjob done of Gamingminiatures it is overkill imo. I use a simple 2 mins radial Drybrushingmethod for the OSL on my Miniatures.
