Title: The Wizard of Oz Clix Style
Post by: War In 15MM on April 13, 2016, 03:45:39 AM
Let me begin by saying this is not an attempt to recreate Judy Garland and the 1939 cast of the movie.  That said, a couple weeks ago I was at a local game shop that specializes in Heroclix.  I was there to go through their tubs of cheap Clix to see if I could find a few things I could use at a good price.  During that exploration I discovered several figures that reminded me of the Wizard of Oz.  Admittedly some are more “Oz”-like than others but the idea of putting together the crew from the Wizard of Oz using Heroclix sounded like fun and since the figures cost between 50 cents and a dollar each, it was a nice cheap little (and admittedly meaningless) project that could provide a nice break from my Gangster project which I’ve been working on since October.  The figures are:
Dorothy: Tabitha Smith
Toto: the dog or wolf that accompanies Arwyn
Tin Man: Tin
The Lion: Kraven
Scarecrow: Scarecrow
The Wizard: The Wizard
The Yellow Brick Road: JTT Plastic

Except for repainting and rebasing, I tried to keep the Clix with as little change as possible.  The only significant exception to that was Kraven.  I removed a knife that was attached to his belt and I gave him the tail that the Oz Lion required.  As stated above, this particular project probably had no purpose other than the pleasure of doing it, but it was a lot of fun.

Gray Ghost and Finn, I'm afraid that I have turned to Reaper/Chronoscope for the wicked witch and the flying monkeys... they also have a very nice Dorothy though I think that Tabitha Smith is a fun option for Dorothy.  I prefer the Heroclix's Kraven to the Reaper Lion and Tin from Heroclix to the Reaper Tin Man.  Studio Miniatures also does a great set of Oz figures called Dorothy and the Gang as part of their Post Apoc figures.

Great project.  :-* I have been thinking about building a Hott army for the Wicked witch of the West. I have a bunch of flying monkeys that are cheap plastics. Made by the same toy company that makes the Nun chucka game. They are made to be flung in the same kind of rubberband gun as the nuns. I think a pack of 8 cost me about $3 dollars.

Oooh, where did you get them from?
I could really use some of those. (seriously, who doesn't need flying monkeys?)

Very clever work.  Would be a good warband for Song of Blades.

Sterling, those are all great.  The Horrorclix stuff is not the easiest to find.  I have the Studio Miniatures' Wizard of Oz group... not painted yet.  I had never seen the Victory Force before.  It's all fun stuff.  Richard
