Title: Array of fighting poses for legionaries
Post by: Khurasan Miniatures on 15 April 2016, 02:19:46 AM
I've got some Romans being made, and already sculpted are some tossing their pila.

I'm curious -- how would you want the other rank of legionaries, assuming the throwing guys are one of the two ranks?  And where would you put the legionaries throwing their spears?

Option A: front rank throwing, second rank also throwing
Option B: front rank attacking with gladius, second rank throwing
Option C: front rank throwing, second rank advancing

Or something else? I've already got the throwing guys made so please keep that in mind. Thanks.

All of them ;)
But if I had to pick only one I'd go with B.
It's the most versatile imo.

Yup. B would be the option.
Some romans in tunic and gladius would also be welcome. We could use them as armed civilians or gangs of rome. ;)

If I recall descriptions of the Roman fighting manuals they threw these in rotation always presenting a shielded front, so Option B I reckon...

A. I like my regular units in pretty uniform poses.

Depends a bit on which era the Romans are meant for.

I guess people like myself who do DBx/WRG basing for their 15mm ancients are in the minority. Personally,  I prefer standing/advancing poses with upright weapons for my heavy infantry.
