Title: Has anyone ever used these steel 'base bottoms' by Litko?
Post by: WillieB on 25 April 2016, 07:04:14 PM

I'm actually looking for oval 5 x 2 cm steel bases to mount my 28mm cavalry but I'm somewhat confused by the term ' Base bottoms' Obviously meant as a base for the plywood bases?
They are rather thin (hence the flexible part) but  I'm thinking they could be used a straightforward bases. Or am I missing something?

If deemed unsuitable would anyone know of a manufacturer that actually makes steel oval bases?

Thanks very much for any help!

I tried that with 6mm miniatures on rectangular bases, and it didn't work out at all.  They are supposed to be used on the bottom of wood or plastic bases, not as their own bases.

Thanks very much! Saves me from ordering something I wouldn't be able to use.
The search continues.....

they say they do a custom service too.

Yeah, if those are the flex steel base bottoms that I'm thinking of (I use them), they're meant to allow your existing bases to stick to magnets, rather than providing a base for the figures themselves.  They're very good for their intended purpose!  :)  But it sounds like you had something else in mind.

The Wargame Accesories (http://www.wargameaccessories.com/Products.htm#Metal%20Bases) company has somewhat thin but sturdy steel bases.  I assembled a FOG:R Muscovite army on them, so I can switch back and forth between individual 40x20 magnetic bases and larger formation magnetic bases.  On their own they are a bit unhealthy, because of sharp and pointy edges and corners.
