I bought for my daughter "magic sand" (watch this video):

I think - this is an excellent material to create the surface game table. Realistic ravines, rivers, roads, hills - no problem! It is only necessary to paint the sand in different colors...
One of our colleague already using it:

Looks interesting. Here's the english version of the ad.

Naturally antimicrobial and... gluten free!?
Are they taking the wee-wee?

As far as I understand, it's just a mixture of sand and silicone oil. Such oils are used in the cosmetic industry. So it it has to be absolutely harmless. And it is not moldy :)

I've been trying to get friends interested in this, but with no success. I don't think anyone trusts it as a gaming medium. My local toy store was selling it for $8aus a kilo, so I ended up buying 5 kilos. It sits quite nicely when moulded, sits in place for hours, and doesn't catch on the miniatures as they move around the surface - i.e it's nice and clean while playing on it, and for cleaning up afterwards.
I guess the main problem is that you're limited to 'desert' type games...

One of the advantages, though, is that you can plonk figures/vehicles 'into' the hills etc, and not worry about them slipping off...

I reckon if I had ten kilos in total, I'd have enough for a 4ft by 4ft table...
Like I said, none of my mates are interested. Having said that, my mate has an awesome sand-table - so why change to something new? ;)

Thank you for the photo - it's very interesting.
It seems to me that such sand can easily make their own hands. Because it just an ordinary sand, mixed with Dimeticone. These ingredients are cheap. It is only necessary to find the right proportion.
I think the sand is not difficult to paint in any color. Paint in different shades of green - and you will have a beautiful summer herb table. Paint in white color - and you have a wonderful a snowy battlefield...

I have some of this but I've never used it for anything.
It could work well for hills under a terrain mat.

I once saw a traditional sand table set up for a game and to be honest it held its shape well but they could go a bit 'green' as water was used to shape them...
Given the weight it's not one for me.
