The Basementeers played their second game of Sharp Practice 2 this week. Pitting two pre 1812 core forces, British with an additional 4 pdr gun and a marksman ( shades of Dann'ill Haggerty ) , the French elected to add an additional leader and 8 X hussars. The British player immediately combined his 3 X units of 8x figures into a " battalion " of the Buffs under his status 3 Leader , and his 2 X 8 figure Highlanders under the status 2 Leader. So, who won?
Did you have a better understanding of the rules?
-
The British won ,M , decimating two French columns with firepower , controlled volley +1 to hit, first fire +1, crashing volley doubles shock , as the French came in at the pas de charge. The French had 5 X Leaders ( they chose one from the support list ) but the British negated this by firing with they,re marksman at the columns , doubles shock and a chance of hitting the Officers on a roll of 1-2 , both Leaders being hit on separate turns. The game plays really fast , it's simpler than SP1 and leaves more time for tactics , we,re enjoying it.

Looks like a great table and game
We are just starting out in SP2 too. Loving t so far!
Just ordered some British light dragoons to provide a bit of mobility.

Cool photos.
I have the rules and are reading them.
I like what I see.
Am playing my first game in a couple of weeks.
Looking forward to it.

They are pretty darn good too ;)
Uncontrolled fire is bad though...
-
The trick is Not to fire " uncontrolled " with the Brits, but to use all the firing factors available at the time , easier said than done , sometimes. I think you need to soften the target up somewhat , Shock , Casualties ect before charging home , drums beating at the Pas de Charge.

Yep! I took a crafty shot at some Grenzers on a hill and lost control of my main line for 5 turns! :o
I had a musician too! Anything but a 1...
We are assuming that a unit activated on a flag after tiffin can't be controlled.
-
A unit activating at Tiffin can be controlled if it was already controlled, I think, so it can take two of the three actions required for controlled fire
(fire/reload, or reload/present, or present/fire), depending on where it is in the firing cycle.
But it can only start being controlled in the first place if activated by a leader

Good stuff Ta
Just got my order from Old Glory of Dragoons and more light infantry.
-
Steve , I understood Rich to say that he elected to fire at the Grenzers by firing " uncontrolled " , the Tiffen card will leave them uncontrolled in the next turn until they are brought back by their Leaders , ie. Officers and NCO,s , exercising command through the "Table Fourteen uncontrolled troops " found on page 49. Colin.
-
Indeed in my case I opted for a snap shot form a line of 4 groups against a grenzer unit of 6+officer.
I figured even at long range they should take enough of a kicking to drive them off or slow them down.
I failed to make an impression and then my line blasted away out of control for several shots after that as the grenzers simply moved out of arc and I couldn't regain control to wheel!
I should have presented and driven them off that way, or even better closed with them.

Rich , you,ll have to post photos of them , I find Old Glory to be somewhat " hit and miss " and will only order if I can see them. These are Eureka.

Loving your work so far!
Mine are Blue Moon 15mm via Old Glory so not really old glory!
Very impressed by the crisp castings and detail
Far better than my painting can do justice to!
Based and undercoated this evening.
