Title: Available figures of multi-armed Indian Goddesses ??
Post by: chicklewis on 25 May 2016, 02:47:57 AM
Hi, clever lead adventurers, I'm planning on sending my CoC players on an expedition to the remote foothills of the himalayas in Northern India, and would like to have 2 figures of an Indian Goddess, with 4 or 6 arms, of which I could paint one as a statue, ant the other as something more mobile. Bigger than 28mm is fine, as you cannot really require goddesses to be any particular size.

Could you direct me to good candidates, please?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Chick

Otherworld does a Kali. Or was it Crooked Dice? I think the latter, in retrospect.

There is also the one from Hobby Products/Mega Miniatures.

Locally there is a jewellry/nick-nack shop that sometimes sells "Indian" statuettes in suzes ranging from 1" to 9". Perhaps you have similar locally?

Reaper makes a couple that have the typical multiarmed upper body of Kali, but serpentine lower bodies: (http://www.reapermini.com/graphics/gallery/4/77117_w_1.jpg[url=http://[/url]http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/snake/latest/77117)

they also do metal versions.

Skip the minis manufacturers.  There must be thousands of variations of this subject available as religious statuary, in a wide variety of scales and price points.  Even a quick search on "Kali statue" (to pick just one deity) turns up dozens of possibilities with prices ranging from under $10 to a few hundred and sizes as small as a few inches up to several feet tall.  Bound to be something out there that suits your needs.

Hardest part may be finding one with only 4-6 arms.  Most of the ones I saw run to quite a few more than that.

May I shamelessly recommend The Avatar of Kali from my Sinbad range?   :D

Fixed the code so your link works.  Beautiful sculpt there, and surprisingly cheap.  Looks better than the one in the Harryhausen film, even.

Should be made of severed arms (and a necklace of heads, not skulls) if you're staying really traditional.  Kali has a weird fashion sense.  :)  Her tongue's not hanging out either, and the mini's facial features are rather a bit more attractive than Kali's normal portrayals.  Still close enough, and a more appealing fig than something truer to the original.

WOW! I wish that mini was out when I was looking for a similar model! It's so good, I might still get it!

This Monster In My Pocket is good after a good paint stripping.

I decided on this mini on the left. Can't remember who it is from...Maybe Mega Minis

Also, check this thing out, I think it's Heroclix or something. Not multi arm, but makes for a good statue.

That's a World Eater figure from WotC's old Dreamblade CMG.  Very, very underrated line of figs if you don't mind repainting soft plastic and dealing with their odd bases.

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions.  I ordered the two 'snakey' Reapers and they arrived, but may be difficult to convert, since the arms are floppy soft white plastic.

The Mega Minis figure is EXACTLY what I want, but Mister Mega Miniatures says he doesn't know who purchased that mold from him.

Anybody know where I can get the bronze-painted four-armed Kali shown above, please?  Anybody have a spare in the 'will maybe never get painted' box?

I actually own that mold! I just did an inventory of the molds I bought and confirmed that it was included. (I wasn't 100% sure...I knew I wanted to buy it but could not recall if somebody else had got it.)

You want two copies, yes?

Apologies for the delay...I saw your initial post but only actually had time to sort things out yesterday. And even then I really only sorted the boxes and took pictures of the contents. I would have actually bought the entire Arabian range but somebody else (Turnkey Miniatures?) had already bought a large chunk. Strangely, they did not want it all, so I picked up a few of the odds and ends: the dancing girls, musicians, serving girls, a beggar and the idol.

I also have most of the Amazons, the Ogres, some of the animals, and Vengequan and Dominants (Essenem Cavalry and Gun Girl) from the Shockforce range.

And a Giant Wasp, which is actually available now: http://lohwand.blogspot.ca/p/the-garden-of-kama.html. (scroll down).

When Johnny closed down his business it seemed like a one-time oppotunity. I have plans for a small fantasy range (working title "Into the Darkening Wood" and also a sci/fi or Post-Apocalyptic range ("A Prince of the Lost"). I already have some supporting greens for each range.

I was also looking for stuff that was usable for Tekumel.

Super cool !   Please tell us about your new greens, unless it is too early to do so.  Whom did you choose as the sculptor, or are you personally sculpting them?

I just googled Tekumel, and there are lots of great images.

Thanks for doing this. I can't run an actual Kali model out here (Sri Lanka), as my Hindu friends I imagine may not approve. The slight changes make this much easier. Ordered!
