Title: Chaos in Cairo comments
Post by: Prof.Witchheimer on 13 July 2006, 04:47:35 PM
I've finished the reading of "Chaos in Cairo". Some thoughts...

- General Impression - Looks good. The goalsystem is easy to understand und probably easy to play despite of number of dices to throw and lots of special traits. I'm looking forward to read Supersystem 2.ed.

- Character creation - top! it's really possible to create nearly all what you want thanks to special traits that help you to make your individual character. Looks like all the individual creations wont disturb the balance of power in the game, as long as the player pays attention to restrictions. BTW, must have - CiC Char generator by Agis Neugebauer http://agisn.de/html/chaos_in_cairo.html

- Unhuman characters - I could imagine that the game balance could be threaded if the unhumans will be too tough. On the other hand that works in Supersystem.

- Henchmen - not sure how good the combat works, particularly in case "henchmen vs. multiple foes".

- Weapons - I need an option for crossbow!!!

- Cinematic Maneuvers - I think that's too much, you have enough to throw anyway.

- Cthulhu for CiC - I'm sure, no problem.

Now I need somebody to play with :)

Sorry for digging out this thread, but I'm wondering if the CiC-rules are still available? As I understand it, they seem to be the 'missing link' between micro-skirmishes like .45 Adventure and the larger side of, say, T & T. And that could be exactly what I'm aiming for.

Any hints?

as far as I know, it the next release of CiC will be available soon.

I beleive it is being laid out right now. I did a bit of proof reading and it looked good to me, but then again I am friends with the authors and thus may be a tad biased.

Got it right, that it's not available at present?
Fingers crossed then, it's going to be released soon. :'(

Yes, the old version is out of print, although you might find a dusty copy on a retailer's shelf somewhere. The new version is not just a reprint, though. There are some new things like vehicle rules. I think they are aiming for a Historicon release (late June / early July).

Edit: If you are not opposed to Yahoo groups, Scott Pyle and Lee Howard (the brain trust) monitor the Goalsystem group traffic closely and can answer any questions much more accurately than I.

Prof,
My groups been playing Super System (the superhero rules that C-I-C grew out of of). Chaos is a much simplified version of them. There has been Chaos in Carpathia (for Gothic adventures), a fantasy version (Goblins of Terrones(sp?)), and now Chaos on Chronos (a pulp Buck-Rogersy sci-fi version). Each version has got better. Cairo had some problems was a good game. I think it's now unavailable because they are tweaking it. The Yahoo group is very helpful.

I received a layed-out version of Cairo to proof read on Saturday, so it should not be much longer.

And I laid it out! And it's looking rather nice if I do say so myself!

I have a copy of the original Chaos in Cairo I'd be willing to trade if someone is interested. It really is a good little rule book.

The new Cairo will be along the same lines as Carpathia in terms of size, basic rules, layout, art, and quality. It's really going to be a dynamite book. Lee Howard has worked very hard getting it ready for layout, and Karl has really made it look pretty. All we're really waiting on now is the cover from ace painter Chris Moeller.

Thanks for all the interest, and let us know if you have further questions.

Is there a onlineshop in Europe (Germany would be even better) that sells the Chaos in Carpathia book?

Hm, as always I have been looking there first, but I couldn`t find it even after I used the search button. Maybe they don`t stock it any more because I took a second look and still can`t find it. Or is it hidden under some strange productgroup?  lol

We always wanted to take the BlueMoon Stuff in our shop, but never found the time (and space for blisters in our shop).
Just drop me an email if you want a copy and I will put an order with BlueMoon. Depending how fast and easy they are to work with we will take the line in our shop.

He posted yesterday on the Yahoo group that they are being temporarily delayed by the cover art and figure sculpts. Principle layout is done though.

Does anybody know when the new CiC is going to come out?  And will it be published by Blue Moon?

I am told that Cairo is finished, but apparently Blue Moon are waiting on figures before re-releasing the rules. The last estimate I heard was "winter". :-[

Oh well, might as well pick up Chaos in Carpathia then.  I was waiting for Cairo since it allowed you to construct your own heroes and monsters.

All produced by Four Colour Figs and now part of Blue Moon Manufacturing.

http://www.bluemoonmanufacturing.com/index.php?cat_id=10 (http://www.bluemoonmanufacturing.com/index.php?cat_id=10)

I laid out the Cairo rules for Scott and Lee Howard. They're all done but the guys are waiting for the new miniature range to be prepared and painted for inclusion in rules and all released at the same time.

Scott says "This is pushing the release back to "Winter". Whether that means November-December, or January February, I cannot say yet. "
