They look excellent. ;D

Lovely large "clump" of badmash, I can hear the Sergeant shouting now "To your front, 100 yards rapid, FIRE" lol.
Did I hear that Iron Duke are bringing Badmash out in the not to distant future, I imagine the more of these you have the better.
-
Very nice 8)
-
Thanks for taking the time to comment guys, the majority of my native forces I started collecting from Mutineer before the release of the Iron Duke range and painted up myself.Jeff965 has painted the majority of the British opposition for me so far, which he has already posted on the forum.I'm basing the size of my units to use in the forthcoming Tmwwbk rules due out in August/September this year. :)
Cheers

Excellent Keith. Great job 8)

In the second photo of your finely painted, rapacious cannon fodder - really like the paved ground, very nicely done. What was it's original purpose, if I may ask?

Yes,no problem.
I place some small mud brick buildings on it to represent a village in some games :)

Looking good, really nice work. :)

Excellent work.

Tough one, however I know someone who rents them by the hour, how long would you need them for?

If we are talking about next year my brother has a set of desert boards

Does he rent them by the hour as well? lol

He may do
However it may have problems getting delivered, depending on what else gets built for next year.
-

Would only need them for a day,do they cost less if they've been used previously :D
-
You've got a lovely looking mob there, very nice.

Thanks for the comments guys, more on the way(he says, like it's a good thing lol)

You are welcome to use them should you wish. On the assumption you can be persuaded to bring that lovely collection for us to drool over and game with and in my case losing in the most spectacular style lol

My take on Studio Miniatures Flashman mini, shown here in his full Meerut/Cawnpore fig.
He seems to be considering fight or flight,I think we all know which he'll choose :)
-
Lovely job, he looks quite the rascal! ;D
-
Lovely figure, rules are needed to work him into a game I think.
-
Lovely figures indeed - great work
-
Just completed a native gun crew to add to my collection, again from Mutineer Miniatures. :)
-
Very nice, I suppose I'll be charging that frontally sometime in the future ;D

Well if you will insist on using Tipperary Tactics with HM's113th Duke of Kent's Own Foot(regimental nickname The Lemmings) what can you expect lol

Very nice, I suppose I'll be charging that frontally sometime in the future ;D
Better that than charging the rear. Phnar, phnar. ;)
Splendid work, lovely to see this collection as it grows. ;D

Hi Nick,
Well,Jeff's painted thirty Brits and I've painted twenty Scots, twenty Sikhs and a gun and crew for the British.
For the Mutineers I have Thirty regular sepoys, painted by Jeff,Sixteen irregular matchlock men,Sixteen badmash and twenty sepoy in native dress.Six rifle company troops, and assorted big men.
A gun and crew for the rebels and twelve sepoy troopers along with some baggage animals and carts, phew !
Sounds more than it looks though :)
-
Still adding to my collection, slowly lol
Three more badmash minis, two Iron Duke flags added to their ensigns(painted by Jazzy Jeff) and a repair to my Sikh NCO(bayonet snapped).
Cheers
Keith

Splendid ;D
Are those badmashes Artizan Afghans?

No Nick, still Mutineer minis but painted in a more muted coulour scheme, same designer as Artizan though so could easily crossover into NWF :)

lol, didnt you mention to me that Jimbibby has some figures for this period,it would be churlish of you not to collect some opposition, just a skirmish size force of course, and perhaps a gun and some cavalry, what harm can that do ? :D
-
You've clearly noticed Keith, that The Bibbly and The Mute always come as a team, I'd swear they were one and the same though I've actually seen them in a room together (albeit I had to alternate between tiptoes and blended knees). :D

Cheers
Keith
-
Lovely jubbly! 8)
Nicely converted :-*
-
Right so the next game involves digging in and bullocks, not sure how that's going to work. Maybe the cart will have better luck moving up the Grand Trunk Road than the Brits did in the last game lol.
Lovely painting mate, keep it up :-*
-
Lovely additions, I particularly like civilians on the fringes of the game and adding some colour to the games table. :)
-
Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated :)
-
New addition, this time a Character for my SP2 games.
I'm going to use him as a doctor/surgeon type as my big men seem to die like flies in our games :D
Antediluvian mini, professor Cushion with Black Cat bases bag and hat (shout out to Elk 101 who helped me source those accessories, cheers Steve :) )
-
Slightly different view :)
-
Now he looks splendid :-* :-* :-*
And yes, I do have some figures for the period...
:D
cheers
James

Lovely use of that figure. a handsome gent if ever there was one. ;)
Smashing work, the bag and hat are nice extras. ;D
-
I can just see him fighting off the badmash with that brolly, lovely stuff mate :-*
-
Now that is rather excellent! I like what you've done with him and the bag works well with the brolly. Lovely job mate.

Fantastic looking figures!

Thanks for the comments guys:)
WillieB,how are those Sepoy shako conversions coming along, ready to share pics yet? :)
-
If I were Willie, I'd put those conversions on hold in the light of what Mike Snook recently posted on the Iron Duke FB page :
A few customers have asked about loyal sepoy codes. Initially I've responded by saying that with the exception of the loyal residues of three regiments, totalling about 700 men, who formed part of the besieged garrison at Lucknow, the BNI played no part to speak of on the British side. There were regiments of MNI involved in Sir Hugh Rose's Central India campaign of 1858, but they still used shakos, and these were of a different kind to the lately abolished BNI shako. As I've said in the past we won't be doing the Central India campaign, so no requirement for MNI. Thinking about it further, however, loyal BNI sepoys would be required for the Battle of Chinhat, the disastrous engagement which obliged Sir Henry Lawrence to fall back on Lucknow and fort up permanently. Since we've already stripped all the tulwars and skull caps etc off the uniformed mutineers to make the Gwalior Contingent code in shakoes, it will be easy enough to head swap the Gwaliors' shakoes with covered BNI forage caps to produce some loyal BNI sepoys. We won't do very many, enough for a unit, or alternatively a number of Sharp practice groups of 8, but leave it with me for a bit and we'll get a couple of loyal codes out - possibly 4 sepoys attacking and 4 command, or possibly a code of 8 sepoys attacking and a code of 4 command. All in long trousers, no tulwars, forage caps all round.
Then again, I'm pretty sure Willie's seen the post above as he obviously is one of said 'few customers' (if not all of them lol )
-
Good work Matyey, keep em coming. :)
-
Thanks for the comments guys:)
WillieB,how are those Sepoy shako conversions coming along, ready to share pics yet? :)
Pathetic , impatient Willie did it again. Ironic thing is that by the time I get to painting them Mike/Paul will probably have their much superior versions available.
Simple conversions in fact for anyone so inclined ( I like to think I'm not the only fool in this neck of the woods :))
The Gwalior figures simply have their shakos removed and replaced with suitable Kilmarnock caps. That gives you a small batch of loyal sepoys.
For a few others - poses I absolutely wanted- I cut away the dhoti and replaced it with tattered trousers. One figure -the loading one- simply had it's tulwar removed and got a Kilmarnock instead of a skull cap.
Of course the now spare shakos went on the cannibalised figures.

More reinforcements ready for tonight's game.
Mutineer Miniatures native gun crew in uniform jackets(useful for both sides) and four Pathans from Artisan miniatures who will be appearing as badmash musket men, classed as Wallah's in SP2.
Cheers
Keith :)

Sneaky use of the uniformed figures - fighting for both sides eh? Nice crisp brushwork.

Splendid. Can we expect some photos of the game? ;D

Some pics of last night's game.
Jeff was the Brits and I took the Rebels.
1.Initial British positions, irregular cavalry yet to arrive on board.
2.Close up of the baggage guard, classed as Train guard,Militia,in SP2.
3.Badmash defend a village,classed as Wallah's in SP2.
4.British clear village at the point of the bayonet.
5.Irregular cavalry charge to their demise against Regular sepoys in formation.
-
A few more pics of last night's game.
1.Another village full of Badmash, this unit successfully held the village against a unit of Sikhs.
2.The British guns, devastatingly destroyed the rebel cavalry and rebel gun and supported the British attack, seen going in,against the village on the rebel right flank.
3.Regular Sepoys, all Iron Duke minis, rush to aid their countrymen, the attack was stalled by more effective British Artillery fire.
In the end a British victory,10 vp's to 2vp's.
Thanks for looking in.
Cheers
Keith.
-
Very noice! :)
I'm afraid I haven't really been keeping up with developments in figures for the Mutiny. If I may ask, who makes those baggage guard figures? Right bunch of ne'er-do-wells, they look. Reckon I might be able to find a use for them.
-
Excellent stuff Keith. ;D
Can we expect to see the collection at BLAM and maybe experience a game of SP2 then ???

The minis are from Mutineer Miniatures range, it's the irregular matchlock men pack, four minis for £3 !
Excellent stuff Keith. ;D

Still a work in progress Nick, we'll have to see how the collection grows,my painting speed is glacial lol.

Ordered Ghazis, Badmash and irregular matchlock men from Mutineer Miniatures today on the strength of Romarks excellent figures.
A welcome distraction from real life at the moment I enjoyed the game immensely (coz I won) and looking forward to our next encounter :)

Purists please look no further, you have been warned :)
Some European(what if) allies for those mutinous rebels or for use in the "Great Game" games with Tmwwbk rules.
Perry Acw minis with simple paint job to make them appear suitable for games in Asia or the Indian subcontinent .More infantry and Horse and guns planned :)
-
Fantastic collection! I wish you have many exciting games with them! Keep'em coming!
-
Lovely idea to field some not Russians, excellent conversions too. ;D

Thanks for comments guys :)

Great looking unit those Russkies

Just a picture of Jeff's Artillerymen manning a Hovels gun emplacement with a couple of the lovely Iron Duke artillery pieces I painted up.
Cheers

I reckon what's needed is a frontal assault on that battery (my usual tactic) what could possibly go wrong lol :-*
-
lol
Ok, we'll give it a go next time ,I'm due a win :D

Lovely work guys

Sounds like a solid plan. ;) lol
Lovely stuff as always :)
-
Great thread, lovely figures and some very nice ideas - love the ACW-what-if minis!
-
Thanks for the comments guys :)
-
Splendid stuff! :-*
I like the not-ACW too. Once our house move is over I plan to paint up a few Havelock-wearing ACW spares I have for use in Colonial gaming. :)
-
A few more additions
Hovels gun emplacement
Iron Duke artillery pieces
Hovels barricades
Mutineer Miniatures casualties,to use as shaken/pinned markers in our games.
-
They're sometimes a bit of a luxury, but casualty figures do add something to the table. They can be great indicators of the ebb and flow of a battle. Nice work.
-

Yep, I like to see them on the table. I think they add a little realism as well. (if thats possible in a game of toy soldiers ;))
PS, Splendid painting all round. :)
-
Very nice :-* 8)
I agree about casualty figures. They do help tell the ebb and flow of the story. It’s just hard to resist putting them at the bottom of the To Do List. So many things to paint ....
-
Lovely stuff mate :-*
-
Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated :)
-
Nice one. I too think casualty figures are great to have, even if you aren't using them as markers of unit status they really add to the look of the game. In fact sometimes when playing rules that need them as status markers I find it a tiny bit annoying, because that kind of stops us from using them to "decorate" the battlefield where the fights have been, which is my favourite use for them.
Unfortunately for some reason I always seem to give them quite a low priority on the painting table, they are always the last thing on the to-do list. Everything else just seems more important somehow. Really must get some more done myself.
-
A couple of additions for tonight's game.
Three baggage camels from Lancashire Games(three left to complete) and a couple of casualty markers painted(Mutineer Miniatures) as Neil's Bluecaps, just in case ;):)
Will post after game pictures tomorrow, all being well :)
Cheers
Keith
-
Pics of tonight's game,a rebellious Raja trying to escape with his treasury loaded upon three camels before being caught by pursuing Brits.
Brits won this one by capturing two of the three camels laden with gold, precious stones and erotic literature. The Raja also was captured, hiding ignominiously in a dung heap, the Indian player rolling a three on the officer wound chart lol .
Pic 1.Game objectives.
Pic 2 Volunteer Horse make a dash for the treasure laden camels.
Pic 3 The Raja and his bodyguard entering from stage left, heading for his camels.
Pic 4 The fight for control of the baggage.A unit of Ghazis being chased off by the Volunteer Horse.
Pic 5 Neil's Bluecaps escorting one of the beasts off the table toward some victory points.
Thanks for looking

Pics of tonight's game.
First battle for Cawnpore scenario from the Colonial Conflicts Mutiny scenario book using TmwwbK Skirmish version.
Pic.1 Irregular cavalry charge.
Pic.2 British take the gun.
Pic.3 Sepoy reinforcements.
Pic.4 Sepoy unit heavily pinned.(Knew those casualty minis would come in handy :) ).
Good fast game, played twice over the course of the evening with the Brits being victorious on both occasions.

Great stuff Keith, you have a fine collection now. Fancy bringing it to BLAM and giving it an outing there?

You have a really excellent collection! Beautiful figs and table. Your games sound like big fun, exciting stuff, eh?!?!
Great idea with the Perry ACW figs painted as Russian allies, splendid.
I'm very motivated by this thread. Now I'm off to paint some French sailors for a friend.
-
Thanks for the kind comments JBaumal :)
-
These look superb
-
Thanks Shipka :)
Few more bits and bobs painted following our last game, couple of casualty markers, they'll be needed,a broken field gun,as battlefield clutter and a snake to inhabit my jungle scenery :)
Thanks for looking in :)
Cheers
Keith
-
Nice additions, especially the snake.
-
Thanks David, snake just a bit of fun,no idea of it's origin, had it donkeys years :)
-
Nice additions Keith, Except the snake, I hate snakes! :'(

Thanks Nick :)
More baggage camels next :)

Thanks Jeff :)
-
As long as it isn't parrots.... I'll cuddle a snake, kiss a rat if I have to but go ballistic if there's a parrot nearby. Oddly enough it's just parrots and not hawks or falcons or any other raptor bird.
But I digress, beautiful set up and pieces!
-
Thanks WillieB :)
As far as creeping out goes,my dislike is tentacles,so octopus, squid and Cthulu are real no no's, Ugh! Lol.
Bet you're looking forward to the release of Iron Duke's 93rd ? :)
-
Thanks WillieB :)

Bet you're looking forward to the release of Iron Duke's 93rd ? :)
Yes! and the elephants, the new Scottish skirmishers,( I am painting the other new skirmisher sets now, together with some volunteer cavalry) the new badmashes and in fact everything ID turns out. This range really got me back into painting after a bit of a slump. The 93rd will be a bit of a challenge but one I'll gladly take.
-
I know, it's all good stuff :)
-
:-*look forward to seeing them on the table
-
Just a few more Mutineers for my collection, been tardy in painting these up because they all had broken bayonets and I'd lost my looks on them :( but an upsurge in interest in gaming SP2 and a green stuff repair and here they are, ready to go :)
-
Lovely little unit :-*
-
Nice one Keith, especially the Sergeant. Dem’s luverly :-*
-
Thanks for taking time to comment chaps :)
-
Repairs look great :-* :-* :-*
How robust are they?
-
Repairs look great :-* :-* :-*
How robust are they?
Hi Colin
They are quite robust,I replace bayonet,as best I can,on the musket with superglue, then next day wrap a cuff of green stuff around the damaged area, once dry paint as usual. Not had a mini with this type of repair break again whilst after a game it's common to see damage to muskets on the "normal" castings.
It looks a bit "blobby" in the hand but on the table during games not noticeable. :)

Had a few broken bayonets myself. Not too many and by now the design is altered so they don't break off as easily any more.
Have you tried drilling them out and re-attaching ? It actually very easy to do. Make sure you have a clean joint by rubbing both pieces lightly a few times over some very fine sandpaper.
Us a drill like this. https://www.amazon.com/10Pcs-Carbide-Micro-Drill-Dremel/dp/B0087M3C44
Use the fleshy part of your thumb as a guide to centre the drill and drill approximately 1mm deep on both ends. Insert 0.3 florist wire on the musket side and slide the bayonet part over it.Glue with cyano-acrylate glue. Almost invisible joint and very strong.
Now keep those pictures coming! They are a real inspiration to me and doubtless many others.
-
Thanks WillieB :)
I'll certainly give your drill idea a try :)

Another game tonight with Meirion55 and Jeff965 up at mine using TmwwbK rules.
A scenario from the rulebook,A sigh of Relief, with a British baggage guard protecting the Colonel's supply of crates of Champagne bottles and tins of Larks tongues in Aspic from a bunch of marauding sepoys until a relief force arrives.
Managed two games with Jeff winning both times, once as the British and once as the Sepoys! :)
Pic 1. Sepoy units, for this game classed as Irreg, unenthusiastic.
Pic 2. Baggage guard under attack.
Pic 3. Baggage guard at full strength.
Pic 4.volunteer horse at full tilt.
Pic 5. The Sepoy leader, rolled on the trait table and Meirion55 got a "drunk" result for this chap! Giving an activation roll of 8! Not good lol.

Looks amazing! Nice work.

Great Stuff chaps. ;D

Well the whole game revolved around this as an objective so I needed a suitably imposing model, but I haven't finished my mdf piece so I had to use this one! ;) lol

"Right lads whose going to be first to take that battery the Fusiliers,84th or the Sikhs, charge!"
Taster for tonight's game of Rebels and Patriots, scenario L,defend the battery.
Hopefully more pics to follow post game :)

I hope so ;) :)

Thanks but I can't take the credit I'm afraid, they were painted for me by a friend :)

Tonight's game,Rebels and Patriots once again.
Pics 1 and 2 show the starting forces.
Pic 3 the Rebel battery after taking casualties from Neil's Bluecaps sharpshooters but not before the gunners had caused the Sikhs to break and flee the game.
Pic 4 the end is near for the mutineers.
Pic 5 the victorious 84th capture the guns and giving the Brits a 4 nil win,but not before losing their officer to a volley from the matchlock men prior to the assualt on the battery.
Another fun game with a result that felt right historically, the Enfield armed troops causing morale tests on the sepoys and pushing them back from the guns and the Brit shock unit storming the battery and giving them the win.
-
Its a fine collection you have now for the Mutiny. Lovely stuff ;D
-
Cheers Nick :)
-
Lovely stuff.
I have played my first Reb. & Pats. game (ACW), liked it.
Will be playing a multiplayer ACW after Easter.
I too have Indian Mutiny figures & will certainly follow your
example & give Reb. & Pats. a try.
Have been using The men Who Would be Kings (same stable of rules).

Absolutely splendid, Sir ...

Had another great game with Romark last week, here's my take on the proceedings.
Last weeks game set in India during the Mutiny, playing the capture the guns scenario from the R&P rulebook.
The Indian troops deploy first with two medium guns (6pts each) and a Line unit (4pts) on a central hill and another two Line units on their base line.
The British then deploy with a large (18fig) Sepoy Line unit (5pts) to the fore supported by a large British shock unit (8pts) and flanked by two skirmish sharpshooter units (6pts each)
The Brits got an extra point because their Officer was the Generals favourite nephew.
-
The initial moves went badly wrong for the Brits with the Sepoy unit taking two rounds of Artillery fire and buggering off a bit sharpish, however at least accurate skirmish fire started to tell on the Indian artillery.
Then the tide turned, as the shock troops moved forward they rolled a double six for activation and a six on the events chart which brought on 4pts of reinforcements in the form of a 12 figure Sepoy unit so the attack was back on.
-
By now the artillery was all but wiped out, a charge from the shock infantry finished them off, and long range accurate skirmish fire also did for one of the mutineer line units.
With the guns gone the skirmishers turned their deadly fire on the mutineer infantry, however a close range volley from the matchlock men managed to push the British infantry back off the hill but it was not enough.
-
The Brits having had their Officer wounded but carried safely from the field made one last push for the guns with the Sikh Sepoys and British shock troops charging one each just as the skirmish fire managed to cause the last two mutineer units to fall back, a Brit win hurrah!!!
Good game, simple rules that seem to give enough historical flavour to make me feel the units acted as they would have and you can't ask much more than that. :)
-
Nice pics Jeff, thanks for posting :)
-
Splendid stuff chaps, Always enjoy reading your reports. :)
-
enjoyable report and lovely pictures,
having bought troops for the period, I am curious why you are using Rebels and Patriots opposed to the Men who would be Kings. I have both of them and they are both nice rule sets and basically shares the same engine, so I am just curious about the preference or the former.
Arrigo
-
Hi,thanks for your comments :)
I too have both these sets of rules, however,
I think that R and P is more of a Horse and Musket game, these rules,to my view of the period, just seem to suit the Mutiny better and the game results seem to reflect my idea of how the battles should turn out.
I also prefer the 12 dice at full strength and 6 dice at half strength mechanism over that used in the TmwwbK rules.
Just my opinion of course :)
Cheers
Keith

I enjoyed that one Jeff, thanks for sharing!!

Another game using Rebels and Patriots Osprey rules tonight.
This time the Widow Creek Bridge scenario, set once more in India during the Mutiny.
Pic 1.Nana Sahib and his troops prepare to deny the bridge to the British.
Pic 2 Strong British force, under command of Lt.the Honourable Hugh Pugh.
Pic 3 Nana's officer trait for this game was "Ruthless",meaning in pursuit of personal glory any troops he was attached to had to be given Attack orders on any enemy unit within 12'',not ideal if you are supposed to be defending the bridge behind hard cover!
Pic 4 True to form Nana Sahib's sepoys charge the loyal sepoys.
Pic 5.Oops! No more sepoys or Nana.
Pic 6 More of Nana's troops advance onto the bridge.
Pic 7 Too many British for them to contend with and they were driven off for a British victory, hurrah!
Out of shot the Sepoy skirmishers did cause heavy casualties on the Loyal sepoys but not enough to break them before the bridge was carried.
Another good game with these rules with the action swaying in favour of one side then the other.
-
Nice one Keith, I always enjoy reading your AARs. ;D
I bought the rules, haven't tried them yet though lol

Yes a great Christmas thank you. I hope your stocking was full of wargame goodies.
I actually checked and you are right the "Rifle companies wore green uniforms, black facings and black equipment."
So kudos to you for going in a slightly different direction and adding some colour to the game. Keep up the good work. Have agreat

Great stuff Keith, only just spotted these. :)

Very nice indeed Keith, just painted some of these myself for the Sikh Wars project they are lovely figures. And although some of the Sepoy light companies had rifles not all did so doing these with muskets is perfectly historical too, they were still int eh process of mving to rifles when the mutiny erupted.
-
Cheers Roger, looks like I got away with it then ;) :)
-
Tonight's game,Botched Relief scenario from Neil Thomas One Hour Wargames,Brits need to capture the village having the smaller force but Sepoys are committing units piecemeal.
Good game with Brits victorious.

All my games are played on my kitchen table, not fortunate enough to have a dedicated game room I'm afraid,so can't blame the great confinement.
Pleased you like the Mutiny game :)

Looking forward to seeing your next big thing, whatever it is. Those other campaigns sound like they'd have some great figures.
Can't wait to see some more pics of this GAPS range, and particularly their Orange River range (which is one I'll have to be careful of not getting dragged into). Not much in the way of pics at the minute, but it's early days yet, I guess.

Neat paintjob, excellent shading, fantastic faces!

Just did a 'skim the whole thread' review, photos mostly. All very nice and love the long term continued additions.
Seems it might be nice to have a "troops in review" photo shoot to see the whole collection all at once. But maybe that's just me.
My own Indian Mutiny collection sadly not only waits getting worked on - even after adding considerable to the total number of figures - and, even worse, just got moved to a storage unit.
Looks like you've tried various rule sets with these figures - which set do you think has been the one you most like to revisit?
