The family played our first game of FreeJumper today, and it was a hoot. They both said it was the best new game I had introduced in a long time. No pics, because terrain is non-existent, and ships are still being built. (Really, the "planets" were overturned soup bowls, and the ships were whatever was on hand. We had an E-wing fighting a Reaver fighting a Firefly.)
We played the starter game, where you get introduced to all the basic weapons and then go for a last-man-standing free for all. Ship design is a large part of the game, and we were all new at it. But each of us was able to make a fully-functional system. I went for a long-range puncher and spent the first half of the game in knife-fighting range. My son had a ship that was deadly up close, but it took him a while to move in.
It came down to a nail-biting ending, as my son was down to his final computer core, and my wife only 1 point of hull left. The boy's shot got through first, and he limped off to victory. But already they are designing new ships, and want to use the rest of the cards.
As a tribute to how well the game plays, I referenced the rule book exactly two times during the entire game! This is unheard of for our family when learning a new system. My wife already said we should order a few more card decks to have extras around for friends.
No affiliation, just love the rules...

Played our first "career" game tonight, new ships and all the advanced rules. Had to reference the rules 4 or 5 times. 3 ships racing to be the first to grab a derelict cargo shuttle.
This game promotes wheeling-and-dealing between players. Several alliances were made (and broken) during the game. "Dad, I'll help you for a 50-50 split."
"How about 60-40?"
"Nope."
"Okay, eat a railgun!"
I ended up limping off the board with the shuttle, but only by promising a share of the loot to the other two! (He ended up with 25%, should have taken the original deal!) The family wants to play again tomorrow, another unheard-of feat.
Space stations are almost done, as is the first ship. If my flight stands ever arrive, I'll be able to start posting pictures.
