1/600 tumbling dice
-
Nice.
-
Very nice!
-
Very very nice!
-
Thanks all. 1/600 is easy fast and cheap!
I've possibly got a bit carried away...
I've also got a load of MIG15, F86 Sabres, MIG21 and F4 Phantoms on the way but they are at 1:300 still very cheap though!
Nearly bought loads of stuff... Canberras, Hercs, Chinooks, Lynx, etc...but managed to resist for now (but it's £2 for 6...!)
CY6 seems to be fairly intense so 2-6 seems a sensible number of aircraft per side.
Also got a couple of 1/600 airfix ships in the post for the Falklands, I know they will be a bit naff and 80's but should be fine.
The Rules cover SAMs and AA Guns.
Made my own green hex cloth too. Very tedious... just need another now in blue for sea...
-
these look sweet!
-

I didn't. I don't count them anywmore, I just weigh them. Kilo's of them Sir, kilo's..... They are addictive.
-
I did accidentally look up some plans for the Atlantic conveyor... it's only about 350mm long at 1/600... I'm sure she'd never notice...
-
I kept it a bit more affordable with 1/3000 cargo ships, with the occasional larger ship for single ship events.
-
I love the scales (1/300 and 1/600). Also some of the plastic naval 1/350. Dipped my toe into some 1/700 Trumpeter Helix helicopters... that was a mistake (waaaaaaayyyyyyyy too tiny! lol).
Lovely painting on your jets.
-
Thanks I was impressed at the detail
The sculpts are a little off but recognisable and being tiny they are quick to paint!
Just need my rules to turn up now...
Also realised my bases are wrong for Jet Age they need to go to speed 8! Oh well good job I can make my own.
Means I'll have to get some piston engined aircraft...

I have a load of those things, but how do you get it to stick to your aircraft base? Purely on magnetism?
-
Yep a 3x1mm rare earth disc magnet. The shaft of the base is a nail!
The pipe cleaner has a steel central wire that will just about stick to it too.
-
Thx for the tip, I have my magnets reversed, only on the base, and the aircraft on a nail :)

I've got mostly 1:600 from TD, but I am buying so 1:700 (first Trumpeter arrived today) largely for naval action. But there are some aircraft available in1:700 that aren't available in 1:600 yet. Otherwise it's hard to get those rare aircraft you really really want. I had to get some F7 Cutlasses, Skyrays, Tu-128's and a Tu-95 from Shapeways. I don't think I will be able to afford a Backfire regiment unless Trumpeter eventually market some.

I was going to do Korea and A-I War in 1/300 but the minis from Scotia Grendel aren't that nice.
I'd guess the moulds are pretty old. The 1/600s are better so I accidentally ordered more...
I'll still going to paint them up
-
Looking at the stuff I have from Croissant, Irregular and Scotia Grendel in 1/300 Scotia Grendel and the miniatures I have from GHQ. There's no competition in quality (which yes, you pay for).
-
Yep $12 per mini though!

Isn't it funny how often these accidents occur? The1:600's are great, but some are better than others.
-
If you want 1/300, try I=94 here in the states, he has very nice stuff. He purchased Raiden line a few years back and as expanded it.

Thanks but I'm now convinced 1/600 is the scale for me :D
-
Still waiting for the rules but they are in the post apparently!
Decals too...
Korea and Top Gear
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f127/richardhumble/Mobile%20Uploads/20160630_071539_zpsdogqfwwe.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/richardhumble/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160630_071539_zpsdogqfwwe.jpg.html)
-
Top Gear? You're missing the the little cars to race the jets...
-
Obviously subliminal messages as I couldn't sleep was was watching top gear! lol
Top Gun... :P MIG28s* and F-14s. The A-4s (Jester and Viper) will get a look in too.
The F-14s need more work though.
(*F-5 Tigers as per the film)
-
Yeah, as soon as I saw the black F-5s I knew what you meant ;)
-
Had a go solo and I think I'm getting there.
The rules are OK once I'd worked out the manoeuvre stuff everything else is easy enough (guns only at the moment)
Tactics will take a bit longer! The trade of speed and height is delicate, I keep running out of one or other!
I also discovered you don't want to get in front of a MIG15 at close range...
-
Cool looking planes - what hex sizes do you use?
-
Home made 45mm point to point
-
I am really tempoet to try this out! Do any of you guys have any experience with Hotz mats?
The have a 45x72" - i think maybe 2" hexes - will there be enough hexes on the mat for this game?
Thanks
Lars
-
The game specifies 30x45 hexes so if it's around that it'll be fine.

Yes, Hotz maps are very nice, but sometimes take a long time to arrive. He is also not good at communicating so sometimes people worry they won't get their stuff. You might check I-94 if you are in a big hurry, Dave carries some of his mats.
-
My magnets turned up they are 4mm by 12mm rods I'm going to use them as altitude markers and remake the bases to track speed only.
-
Interesting to see how that looks. I went with Lego as it is cheap to get 2nd hand, stacks easily and you can use various colours to see the difference between Green, Ace etc

Legos? Sounds cool - do you have any pictures of how it looks?
-
Altitude 5 (as in 5 pegs), yellow colour denotes pilot level (I haven't picked out what colour works for what level yet). Counter on the base for speed, so no dice are needed on the stands.

Fits in a small storage box.

In the Netherlands the 2nd hand Lego market is huge, and the pegs can be had for 2-3 cents a used piece. Transparant ones go for 7-12 cents so I passed over those for now, but will probably invest in those at a later date, or when I find a local seller who does 40-50 in one go for a nice price (I'm not cheap, just poor).
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/3mm/019_zpsw4fbuosg.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/3mm/019_zpsw4fbuosg.jpg.html)
And all you need to do is drill in a small round bit and glue a magnet in that, very easy and with the simple colours it is easy to see who is what and whom goes first etc.
-
Magnets are 6p each (probably about 6 cents by now) from guys magnets.
Had a first proper game on Thursday night, all went well (lost twice) the magnets work OK but they are a bit too strong!
I'll see about a pic or two later!
-
Legos - that looks way cool - where do you buy the bases?
-
Bases are wound trackers from Warbases.co.uk, the 30mm type 2 kind: http://war-bases.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=944&search=casualty+marker
A small lego dish is glued to that with epoxy, and then I just paint everything black.
6p per magnet, that is cheap!
-
Just ordered the rules - cant wait!
Checked out the magnets guys website - i am a little confused with all the different magnets - what did you buy Gunbird??
Tanks Lars:-)
-
3mm round, 1mm tall for the base toppers and most of the aircraft. Remaining with a flat top nail (mostly helicopters and small aircraft)
-
Just got the rules - yeahh :)
Does anyone know if there are any video battle reports of this game?
Could only find some WW2 ones!!
Thanks
Lars

I haven't seen a JA one. Let us know if you find one, although the general principles seem gone same.
