Hello! I have decided to kickstart my 28mm Westerosi armies by doing up a Northern and Vale/Sistermen force for recreating The War Across the Water, a thousand-year turf war between the Starks and the Arryns over the Three Sisters: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/War_Across_the_Water (http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/War_Across_the_Water)
So far I have a handful of units in varying stages of assembly. Those pictured will mostly represent the Northerners as I foresee far less kitbashing to do the Vale forces - they of the "pure" chivalrous, knightly medieval look.

Those newer Bretonnian plastics may end up as Freys rather than Men of the Vale, as they have somewhat of a scummy look to them that just seems to fit those worms of The Crossing.
I'll be using these for Lion/Dragon Rampant and eventually (once enough get painted :D ) for To The Strongest!. I also have a bunch of ships to represent the naval actions one might imagine occurring in a conflict over islands, but those are probably beyond the scope of this challenge.

nice start. Maybe this can be added to the GoT thread?

Hey, that's looking impressive and very promising!

Another one to follow :)

I was thinking I'd post my progress here for now, then when AP 2016 is over, start a new topic in Fantasy Adventures that links here but update that one from there on out. :)

That will make a nice force. Good luck!

Awesome, I'd love to see closeups!

All in good time! This was a flurry of excited plastic cement work. Still have to take care of any gaps, do some green stuff work and maybe even look for mould lines. ;) lol

I know I'm due for an actual update soon (as I really need to start painting that first unit...) but a quick question before that. I'm building a little log outpost for the Northerners and was wondering which looked better/was more suitable:
Crenelations...

Crenelations always look better!

I would go for Carnations too

Crenellations all the way :)

Both look good I think!

I think Crenelations have won out. :D Now to get that first unit painted... I think it will be a unit of Tallhart or Glover archers. Stay tuned. :)

Well, I wave the white flag on making this first deadline... lol I primed them with a #0 brush :o when I realized that I had brushes up to that size, and then large terrain brushes, but nothing in between... so I punted on this deadline to save my sanity (picked up some basecoating/block painting sized brushes yesterday thankfully). Hopefully I'll have unit number one finished by week's end. lol :D

The 1st of the month is just a guideline. Good luck with them this week.
....oh, and crenellations. :)

We're all right behind you. No pressure! :D

I'm so glad you wrote that as I have never seen GoT and I thought I had discovered a great big whole in my military history knowledge.
Another vote for crenellations
