German infantry squads that were equipped with StG44s -- did they have the Mg42? I recall that in theory these squads were thought to generate sufficient firepower that they did not need the MG, but I don't know if that was the case in practice, or if they continued to get the MG.
I mean those squads that were StG44 squads, rather than units that might have got one or two StG44s to supplement or replace their MP40. My understanding is that, especially in 1945, sometimes entire platoons or companies were issued StG44s.

What you are referring to would either be the Assault platoons that were part of infantry/ Panzer Grenadier Regigments or the later Volks Grenadier regiments that were either formed anew in 1944 or Infantry regiments were reformed as them. They, the Volkgs Grenadiers, were issued large numbers of ST44. The old bayonet strength website used to have good detail. I'm pretty sure you can still get it from the wayback machine.
I'd did keep some notes from Bayonet strength on the Volksgrenadier companies that I can post if you want?

According to Grenadier Company K.St.N.131V (01/11/1944)
there were two different plt set ups first 2 were assault and third was the fire support with the old rifle/MG set up
In the assault plt there were 2 sections with 8 Stg and the third section had 6 stg and 2 MG

Thanks, yes I think the volksgrenadier org would be very helpful.

As you guys may have guessed, I'm making 15mm late war germans now and that's why I'm asking. :-)
They will go with my Panzer 46 range, and of course can be used for straight 1944-45 gaming as well, except I may make some Stg44 sets that will be purely panzer 46.
