Title: 6mm 1980's US and Danish army
Post by: Dr. Zombie on 23 June 2016, 10:37:03 AM
I figured that it was about time that my yanks got a thread of their own. They have been hidden away in the workbench but now they are just about ready to go into the field to see some action.
This will be a US army in europe in the 80's

I am aiming at hitting the MERDC cammo pattern.
Like this.

It is not really the best model. I has almost no details on it so this really was what I could get out of it. I think it needs some decals or something to bring it to life. But I don't have any that small.

An Apache. It is from Heroics and Ross. And somewhat rough. At some point I might get a GHQ replacement.
(http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t75/Fredejensen/A3767CA0-7EC7-4EC1-9363-E4DF78C0F96E_zpssv87no7n.jpg) (http://s157.photobucket.com/user/Fredejensen/media/A3767CA0-7EC7-4EC1-9363-E4DF78C0F96E_zpssv87no7n.jpg.html)

And speaking of GHQ I realized I had some of their aircraft squirreled away in the mountain. They were originally intended to be orkified for my Epic orks. But I never got round to it. So now they will fill their original purpose.

A Chinook.

Very impressive. You certainly havent been vasting your evenings. That must be the reinforcement for the hard pressed danes in our campaign.

I am looking forward to seeing them on the table.

Thanks.
I might have developed a small problem though. And i completely blame you!

I cannot seem to stop painting these little guys. It is very gratifying to finish stuff so quickly. Soon I will run out of Americans and I will have to find something else to get my fix.

Thanks.

Here are some jeeps with recoilless rifles. I think they are still ok for early 80's use but I am not completely sure. I find conflicting info.

Some inbound air power.

An F15 Eagle
(http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t75/Fredejensen/82CD1979-1559-4EBF-92EF-160C953CAB9D_zpswjgsospj.jpg) (http://s157.photobucket.com/user/Fredejensen/media/82CD1979-1559-4EBF-92EF-160C953CAB9D_zpswjgsospj.jpg.html)

An F16 Falcon
(http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t75/Fredejensen/471E4979-9038-42D8-B75F-F9F1BF1D8329_zpslplmee6f.jpg) (http://s157.photobucket.com/user/Fredejensen/media/471E4979-9038-42D8-B75F-F9F1BF1D8329_zpslplmee6f.jpg.html)

And I repainted my A10 Warthog in camo to try and hide the poor detailing on it.
(http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t75/Fredejensen/7CBB0858-DBE9-41AC-84D7-82988FAE72F9_zpsymmxaqfk.jpg) (http://s157.photobucket.com/user/Fredejensen/media/7CBB0858-DBE9-41AC-84D7-82988FAE72F9_zpsymmxaqfk.jpg.html)

Now I am working up the courage to perhaps get some decal markings on them. But i really really hate working with decals. And especially tiny ones...

See what Gunbird's done - they pop, pop, pop! (If you can paint camo that well at 6mm, you can do decals.)

I have painted up a few more yanks.

M113 ACAV

Blackhawk
(http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t75/Fredejensen/41D3E40B-8F24-47E5-B4B9-AC7B453A9E6A_zpstl9vs58e.jpg) (http://s157.photobucket.com/user/Fredejensen/media/41D3E40B-8F24-47E5-B4B9-AC7B453A9E6A_zpstl9vs58e.jpg.html)

After this I have some Cobras to paint up and then I think I am done painting Americans. Apart from perhaps some Amtracks and a OH-58 Kiowa spotter helicopter.

Thanks! I've seen them before, and for the life of me, couldn't remember the company. Have some Hinds upcoming that need to be dressed up. I don't like the brass rotors - they're fragile, and too static, unless the  model is on the ground.

OH-58 Kiowa scout helicopter.

The OH-58d (armed and with the mast mounted sight) didn't start hitting the force until the mid-80s and it took quite a while to get the earlier versions replaced.

For early 80s you may want to pick up a couple without the ball sight and armament.

Nice. And how much of that is going to die in its first game?

Judging from our last game most of it.

Nice.

The Centurions reminded me of the film Reptilicus which is the victim of the new Mystery Science Theater(sic) 3000. Lots of footage of the Danes blazing away (a bit early I know).

You can have my 6 mm Danes too - more or less the same as the ones you have there. I won't be using them any time soon.  lol

@ultravanillasmurf Reptilicus is my favorite bad movie.  :D

@Dr Viking I'll happily take your guys to the field.

WOW WOW WOW
Very inspirational painting speed. In 6 mm there really is no time from idea to reality.

Super cool miniatures.

I will go and set up a table right away. Search and Destroy or Break out. Probably Break out as it will allow you to field all those cool, crappy tanks.

Cheers
Erik

There is a problem with the Leo... they are not A3... but A1 or A2... the A3 introduced the more boxy turret, the Danish version had also an extended stowage bin at the rear.

They are bought as A3 from Heroics & Ros. But you might be right. I have never been much of a button counter myself.
As long as I can tell the difference between Leo 1 and 2 I am good. Especially at this scale.

To round out the Danish army I still need some MAN trucks and some Land Rovers and/or Mercedes GDs

I think there was a mishap, I bought those as A2 from H&R back in time... and the difference in turret is big:

and I get upset when people brush off 6mm with sentence like...

Especially at this scale.

Just checked the H&R site. They are indeed A2s they don't even do A3s. I remembered wrong who would have thought!?
