Title: Frostgrave: The Empires Nordland Province (board and miniatures; WIP)
Post by: Kleingärtner on 26 June 2016, 04:31:22 PM
Hello fellow miniature enthusiasts,

Ever since I got my hands on the Frostgrave rulebook, I wanted to play the system. Its easy enough to learn, while offering the player a lot of choices. Two weeks ago I decided to start my Frostgrave project, after I finished my Guildball pitch.
I wanted to use the same board, because I have not enough room for a second table in my flat share. So the pitch had to to be modified. I built a small hill to cover up the pitchs centre circle and began to build and paint an old, burned down tavern ("The last Drop").

Overall I plan on building more scenery. I need some trees, a portal, a waystone, a tavern sign, some chopped wood etc.

The board is made of Kapaline, so are the hills. The shore is a Citadel Wood base (cut in half) and boat elements are from a Revell Dragonship. The basecoating was made with Molotow Spraycans. In the final version I got rid of the wooden planks (shown in the first pictures and idicating the lines of a Guildball pitch).

The sixth picture shows my Druid Apprentice Bearclaw (Frostgrave Witch) and his trusted fellow Rüdiger Hornblower.

Then I manged to grab some old Claymoresaga figures from a fellow gamer in my area. I wanted to build a wood-themed and a city-themed warband. I did some 'kit-bashing' (with the Frostgrave Soldier Kit and some Warhammer figure parts). Where I felt the need to model something, I simply tried to achieve the look/item I wanted by using Green Stuff.

@ WallyTWest: Thank you for the reply. I should tell you, that the Barbarian feels especially flattered since your post. He's braiding his beard over and over again.

Today I finished the apprentice's master, the Druid Waldenherz. Furthermore I chopped some wood and made a signpost for the "Last Drop".

Some nice little touches there from greenstuff to log piles. Very inspirational. I need to add more 'scatter' to our Frostgrave terrain i see now.

Do I remember correctly. Did someone do some signs/posters/flyers for sticking on buildings, or was that another site?

The City Gard conversions are inspired. Good use, the vectored arm with the lantern looks natural. I can't wait to see them painted! You got me thinking about making a third warband!

Tell the barbarian he looks fine the way he is. <3

That is one clever apothecary. Now I hope I still have one of those lying around! :)

@jp1885, The Dozing Dragon: Thank you.
@Azzabat: I don't know about printable and scaled signs/posters/flyers for Frostgrave. But I would be interested if you track the source. Concerning the green stuff: Ususally I take too much GS. Therefore when I try to sculpt, I make oo-much.sure to have some unfinished bases near by. I think it is the best way to 'recycle' the too-much.
@WallyTWest: Today I primed the two warbands and converted the son of the barbarian (a javeliner).
@Daniel36: I keep my fingers crossed for you.

As stated earlier I primed the warbands. But I did not find the time to paint, because I got my hands on a very much desired bit. A Warhammer Skaven Screaming Bell.
I found this nice Artwork online (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/Bilibin._Baba_Yaga.jpg (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/Bilibin._Baba_Yaga.jpg) - Iwan Bilibins painting: Baba Jaga) and according to Bilibin Baba Jaga is riding a mortar. But I was not sure how to sculpt one. The screaming bell came in handy. I always wanted to built a Baba Jaga Model. Here is my attempt (WIP) for a Frostgrave Necromancer.

That's awesome. I've enjoyed the Baba Yaga legends for decades and that's a damn fine rendition.

OMG that is so many levels of awesome! I have been in love with Baba Yaga (as a character, get yer mind outta the gutter!) since  first saw her mentioned in the 1st Edition AD&D Dungeon Master's Guide way back in 1980 or so. You have truly done this legend justice!
