Title: Good minatures shop in London?
Post by: Arthadan on 13 July 2016, 07:03:04 AM
Hi all!

I have a trip to London next week and I was wondering if somebody here knows a good Fantasy miniatures shop there (I wouldn't mind taking advantage of the pound low change rate and get some shiny little folks).

I'll be stopping near the British Museum, so if there is any shop close by all the better.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong forum!

Orcs Nest is your best best, just off Shaftsbury avenue and within ten minutes of the British museum. There's also Dark Sphere games near Waterloo station but they moved a while back and I'm not sure where (still close to the station though).

cheers

James

I found these guys last month when working down in smoke, they have a big shop. They seem to support will on line retail so to me seemed to have quite a bit of kit. They also had facilities for hiring gaming tables

https://www.darksphere.co.uk/ its in Lambeth sarf of the water

A bit further out but if you have a couple of hours spare you can take the tube (High Barnett Northern Line) to Finchley Central and visit Leisure Games: http://www.leisuregames.com

Orcs Nest is the closest to the British Museum. It's good, but more of a board games/Role Playing games shop than miniatures these days. It has a decent stock of Reaper Bones and a quite a few plastic boxed sets.

You're best bet is Dark Sphere. If you can get on the Underground, go South to Lambeth North, one stop from the end. It's just down the road from the station, on Hercules Road, built into the arch of a bridge. It's well stocked and has most stuff at a discount.

I lived in London for 2 years at the turn of the millennium and only had Orcs Nest and the GWs.
Glad to know the Ol' Nest is still there!
Oh and I did go to Leisure Games.. which is far up north.
Both shops were pretty average compared to shops here in California, but over there it was a godsend.

As much as I love England, you just cant beat American game shops for size, prices, range of stock and the sheer number of them.
Takes living in other countries to appreciate our gaming scene here in the USA.

Didnt mean to turn this into a patriotic rant.

But yeah, "big up" to the Orcs Nest massiv'!

Mars Miniatures, you are totally right.

Sadly, rentals and everything in the UK, especially London, are painfully high.

rob_alderman,
Indeed.  Rent, gasoline (Im sorry, I mean petrol), and cigarettes (I smoked at that time, bad... I know) are insane over there.

nic-e,
Dark Sphere looks amazing, and its a stones throw from where I used to live in Clapham Junction.  Next time Im in the UK, I will definitely make a visit.
