Title: WWW2 Indian Para Camo Suggestions
Post by: wolivant on 16 July 2016, 11:33:17 PM
I am putting together some WWW2, European Theater, Indian paratroopers, that are now ready to paint up.

I did originally have in mind to paint them the same as British or Polish paras, with a red turban. Hmm..

Anyone got any ideas on the camo colours?

I am putting together pacific USMC and Japanese so could go for something tropical or even jungle like and use them for that theater instead..

Maybe base it on something the Indians would eventually use?

Camopedia for India has a bit of choice:

What ruleset will these be for?

How about tiger stripes? It fits an Indian theme and is suitably ferocious.

I was mulling on a DPM but didn't realise that the Indians use it. Guess it makes sense, them being commonwealth related and all..

Tiger Stripes sounds interesting too, Im now mulling over a platoon of each, I have enough already based up on the painting table..

I'm using Blitzkrieg Commander Rules as I played them extensively for WW2 15mm gaming and really enjoyed the simple game mechanisms, need for tactical play and overall fun. You get a decent company sized game played in a long afternoon. I modded army lists and added a few additional, simple gaming mechanisms for WWW2, See here: http://weirdwars.pbworks.com/ (http://weirdwars.pbworks.com/)

One of the main issues I had for painting was what colour to do the turbans, I like the 'red devil' look but I wanted them to have a distinctive feature, so they were easily distinguishable on the table, but I can see them ending up painted almost the same as Brit Paras, hmm... Possibly a dark green Turban ? What do you guys think ?

Cheers

Not sure - I think you want to do a contrast colour (white or yellow) or if you're feeling confident a pattern? I nearly jumped into a rabbit hole of internet research...

The Indian Army raised an Airborne Division during the war. It was mostly kitted out in standard JG, as it was intended to be used in the invasion of Malaya.

If you want a camo pattern then the post-war Indian army actually used Denison smocks. The later Indian brushstroke pattern is a derivative of the pattern on Denison smocks.

Tiger stripe is itself a derivative of the French tenue de leopard AKA lizard pattern. It's possible that someone could have developed such a pattern in isolation but it's less likely than what actually occurred.
