I'm sure this has been asked before, but I didn't see anything.
Does the Wizard/Apprentice's starting staff or hand weapon take up one of the five item slots? If it does not take up a slot, would that also apply to a weapon swap, such as taking a double handed weapon?

Wizards and Apprentices' equipment take up item slots, even the starting equipment. The only time equipment doesn't take up an item slot is with soldiers.
If you have more questions on the rules, there is a thread for it at the top of the list of these threads.
Thank you,

I must admit I read it as the wizard comes with a choice of 1 weapon, but any additional weapon counts as an item.
With the way Joe works it, as long as the group you play with agrees I guess it doesnt make a whole heap of a difference .
Thats one of the things I love about this game, play as you fancy as long as there are no tears :)
Not trying to Hijack this thread but my buddy and I are about to start 2 warbands where the wizards are going to get to choose ALL spells at their base casting numbers and see how it goes, it'll be a chance to use some of the spells that we dont take because they would require to much work to get them down to useable.
We're starting with only 4 spells and get 1 free spell for the next 4 games + whatever we can get with the xp or grimms.
We also only get 25xp for treasures, and draw a monster card for every treasure you touch. plus whatever monsters the scenario has.
Worst case scenario we get a dead wizard and have to start again :)

Thank you, and fair enough. I did see the rules section, but it looked like it was something downloadable, so I didn't want to do that while at work. Granted, I could wait until I go home, but then I wouldn't be able to kill some time. lol
