Title: What on earth are these?
Post by: Hobgoblin on 28 July 2016, 10:48:39 PM
I bought these very cheaply on eBay. No buyer's remorse - they'll do very nicely as the spine of a HotT army. There are enough for two units of shooters, two of blades and at least three of knights.  But what on earth are they?

I haven't got a clue, but the swordsman looks like some sort of dragon-man. I like the look of it.

Are all of these metal? In the picture it looks as if the mounted ones (frogmen?) are a very hard plastic (like the Robogear stuff).

Come to think of it; the style does remind me a bit of that one Russian brand that did all those fantasy armies and castles some years ago. Wasn't that the same company that did Robogear?

+++EDIT+++ No it wasn't: it was Zvesda... :D

Too easy.  Herptars from the old Holistic Design's Carnage minis game.

Give me a hard one next time.  :)

I doff my hat, sir! I doff my hat! :o

They are indeed nice beasties. And, with nine cavalry, they amount to 16-20 points of a 24 HotT army. I have enough reptiles for the rest ...

Yup - me too. It was a guilt-free purchase. They've got a certain charm.

Yes - very hard, silvery plastic that seems to take paint OK (judging by the infantry). I need to establish how they respond to polystyrene cement; if they do so obligingly, a few conversions will follow.

That's exactly the alley down which my pre-arrival investigations wandered!

Anyone looking for the figs (lots and lots of the figs) might want to check this out:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Holistic-Design-Carnage-Carnage-Fantasy-Miniatures-Battle-Game-Box-VG-/131880908763?hash=item1eb4b6f7db:g:D0cAAOSw0fhXjCNj

Noble Knight is a reliable game store and ebay seller, and that price is simply insane.  Lower than the shipping cost, which is predictably high for a game that's nearly as big as a GW Big Box like Warhammer (which was the market Holistic was trying to compete in back when it was released in the very late 90s).

Sadly £30 shipping to the UK. :(
