Title: Guild Ball Fishermen
Post by: stone-cold-lead on 10 August 2016, 07:40:05 PM
Started work on a Guild Ball team this week. Only a handful of figures but quite a bit of work involved with them, especially the big guy I started off with.

Nice Obelix-pants indeed, and the usual impeccably smooth finish we've come to expect from you.

Is his speargun (?) bent, though, or is that a trick of the camera angle?

Bit bent. All the harpoon things on the models I've got were quite bent (resin castings). I straightened them using the old hot water technique but they've all warped back slightly. After four attempts on this fella I've decided to leave it as is.

I don't want to like the figure.  The sculpting quality is there but there is something just not sitting right for me.  Your mutts nuts painting of him though is swinging me. If it is actually possible you seem to be getting even better at this colouring in stuff with each new post.

Digital sculpt? There are a few minor issues with how some things appear, especially the netting.

Top level painting here. But what is up with that pointing arm, how and why is that sling of rope hanging there.  o_o

Not the best pic here, but two more models from the set.

Job done! Quite a nice set of figures. Slightly spoiled by the magical bending harpoons which all warped back to curviness after several straightenings, but what can you do?!

More pics on FB and website and blog (links in my sig).

They're for whaling round corners.

A nicely unified bunch.

Wow, top notch work, subtle but packs a punch.

You can actually get the figures in metal too.

That would have been better. In fact all the way through painting these I kept thinking how easily they'd mould for metal casting! Not my figures though.
