Title: Japanese Artillery
Post by: Bullshott on 29 January 2007, 04:23:24 PM
Can any of you guys help me? I'm looking for a suitable field gun to go with my 28mm Boxer Rebellion Japanese forces.

The Japanese adopted the Arisaka 7.5cm field gun in 1897. Was this a copy of a European gun or a new design?

Also, what European field guns did they use before adopting the Arisaka?

Presume your talking about the Type31.  Don't believe she was a true "copy" of any European design, although it's difficult to say what was 'original' during that timeframe.  Personally, I think the Type31 Field Gun kinda looks like a big screw gun; then again, all tubes with wooden wheels start looking alike after awhile...

WRT artillery prior; Japan used two types of 70mm guns.  One a Field Gun and one a mountain gun.  Both build in the early '80's, and used in the Sino-Japan thru Russo-Japan wars.  Interestingly, the 70mm's were made of BRONZE!  Seems steel was such a rare commodity/expensive in Japan at the time, they opted to cast bronze.

Cheers
Scott

I'd be interested to hear what artillery people use for 28mm Japanese too. Any links to pictures ?
