Revell is releasing new model kits of a TIE Fighter (1/48), X-Wing (1/48) and the Millennium Falcon (1/72).
Quoth Scale Model News, "In Revell-speak, these three Star Wars models are Level 5 kits, the company’s top build standard ... all targeted at the advanced modeller."
Also, "The TIE Fighter and X-Wing are arriving now, the Millennium Falcon will be available shortly."

I was hyped by Millenium Falcon till this part:
Parts: 904
This make it completely unpractical for wargaming :(
It will be tedious to do and very delicate.
-
From what I've heard, these are re-issues of the FineMolds kits. So, indeed proper "scale" kits and a different kettle of fish from the previous kits.
-
A 1/72 Millennium Falcon is what...garbage can lid sized?

I suspect most will be details you could live without; ME, I'm daunted by the price even before they announced it... :o

Assembled length: 271 mm (10.7 in)
Assembled width: 222 mm (8.7 in)
I'll admit that sounds small, but mostly because I've the action figure toy versions for comparison.

All the Revell Star Wars kits up to now have been rubbish :-X
I wonder if they are seeing the hit from Bandai and trying to compete?
cheers

Page that scared me with part count give following dimensions:
Scale stats
Revell Level 5: Millennium Falcon
Scale 1:72
Parts: 904
Assembled length: 456 mm (17.9 in)
Assembled width: 311 mm (12.2 in)

The list price for the Revell re-issue of the Falcon is $299 USD. I think it was about $250 a few years ago when it came out under the Fine Molds brand.

Whoops, I copied the X-Wing. Okay, not that far from the 'toy.'

Gasp! No, really, just 'Gasp!'

Why not just get the Tamiya ones?

For years I've shied away from Revell as I've found the quality to be poor. :(

If they are using the Fine Moulds tooling that might change but too little, too late for me I'm afraid :?
cheers

If you can still find it, try the Hasbro one - pics here http://zemjw.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/hasbro-millennium-falcon.html
I got mine from argos. It's not the most accurate kit, but it's a big beast :D
I believe there are some aftermarket kits available for it, if required
-
The 1/72nd scale Falcon is indeed a Fine Molds re-issue. As such It's the most accurate Falcon kit the mass market has ever made. This thing was going for up to $600 at one point, so getting it for $300 isn't bad. Using it for a game however seems like overkill.
The 1/48th scale Fine Molds fighters are supposed to be coming in around $80 if memory serves. Kinda make GW pricing seem reasonable.
-
I wish they would do a 1/72 scale model of the stormtrooper assault ships.

1/72 is 20mm, so it's around 1/3rd smaller than 28mm. However, that said - I'm sure it could be made to work as an alternative smaller version.
-
John Lewis stores in the UK have a lot of the Revell kits on sale. Just picked up a 1/90 scale Tie Interceptor for £2.

Thanks, but as I admitted, I got the wrong dimensions.
As it was, the price made the discussion completely moot to moi. ;)

PS And thanks for pointing out DOug. Damn sticky shift key... finger. lol

Any model that costs $300+ better take up a whole table or be made with solid gold.

Good comment! :D

Good comment! :D
Wow. So true. and I thought XWing and Armada were expensive. :o :o

i'll rather wait for Bandai's.
1/72 Bandai's are by far superior in accuracy than Revell ( apart of the Falcon you commented before). That Falcon is in fact the original Fine Molds milenium falcon. One of the Best? model in terms of accuracy and complexity. a real master series. But i think revell overpriced an overpriced in-origin item!.

The interesting thing about the Bandai kits is their 1/72nd scale Star Wars fighters are actually better kits then the Fine Molds 1/72nd scale kits, and they don't cost anywhere near as much. I should say this isn't my opinion. It's from many of the model kit YouTube guys who've bought and compared the kits side by side. The Bandai X-Wing has much better detail and crisper molds then the Fine Molds one, according to the YouTube guys. I'd absolutely love to get a Bandai 1/72 Millennium Falcon, and i already own the Revell issued Fine Molds one.
-
I think Bandai have got the capital to spend time on the moulds and get them right. They will also know that these will sell (I should know, I've bought enough lol ).
cheers

I've never been disappointed with a Bandai kit. I very much find if I need a model kit...and Bandia makes it, that's the one I buy.
-
i agree with you James, Mitchka and Scurv. i collected ths 1/72 fighters ( x, Y-wing, also tie) in order to summon them when using the starfighter straffing attacks optional rule on the SWMB 8) ;D :D
i don't own the original FM 1/72 MF, but i rather used the funds needed to purchase a 1/72 YT-2400 and a 1/72 XS stock freighter that delights me for the uncommon Sw-ish freighters i wanted as highlights for my games. obviously, no "garage model", usually in resin can match the accuracy of the Fm injected plastic, but in any case are beautifull projects to prove yourself as modeler....
Rather than purchasing a top series MF, i'd rather purchase the old Mrtl/ EMT falcon to scratch some extra pods, over the upper dish, just like the shwon on the WEG Rebel alliance Sourcebook

While I'm sure the Bandai kits are nicer, but I'm interested in the Revell kits because they are 1/48. All of the 1/72 kits I've looked at have been too small.
I'm willing to put up with simpler less detailed models of a bigger size. I'm also thinking the simpler construction will be beneficial for gaming.
Looking forward to seeing them, although the prices bandied about here are a bit on the silly side. Hope the actual retail price is a bit lower...
