Title: Boglings (Frogmen) from Otherworld.
Post by: PhilB on August 22, 2016, 10:14:12 AM
A few months ago I painted up some 70s-vintage Dragontooth figures, and I just got round to the Boglings (aka Frogmen) that I ordered recently from Otherworld Miniatures.

These were really fun to paint, and after 40+ years in the hobby, I finally used some Green Stuff: to make the mushrooms that you see on the Boglings' bases.

I really love the figures I've gotten recently from Otherworld, very lively and not at all over-the-top, like all too many manufacturers are putting out these days (Games Workshop, Fenris, etc).

Now if I could only manage to take halfway decent close-up photos... (grumble, grumble)

Excellent little force. The old minis still cut it from 50+cm's away. Would still love to see some detail shots. :--)

OK, trying, but my photographic skills lag behind even my painting skills. :^(

My intention was to give them a look akin to both bullfrogs and leaopard frogs. Naturally, I painted the three frogs first, then chose what appeared to be the best option for full implementation.

Didn't realize it until I was half-done painting this guy, but he's got his lunch hanging over his back.

I hesitated about how to do the eyes, but in the end the full black, empty look won out over the yellow and black look that you see, for example on Otherworld's website[/i] (http://otherworldminiatures.co.uk/shop/wilderness-encounters/444-2/).

The mushrooms are all lumpy and irregular, which seems to match my experience with mushrooms I see in the woods, here in central France. I went for the color scheme on the Amanita muscaria, although the forms is probably closer to Boletus edulis. I suppose that more experience and patience will be required to create acceptable mushroom species. <g>
